GPUs are way too expensive — here’s the proof

The price of the graphics card is zero, and if you are looking for any type of mid -range or high -end card, this does not look like these “PDSF” prices announced on stage. You probably already know if you have bought one this year, but an exhaustive statistical analysis proves it.
The team of Nexus players, which is not unrelated to the deep dives on PC equipment, decided to throw a good overview of the current graphics cards market. The data they have collected in a 20 -minute video show that high -end cards, in particular the RTX 5090 and 5080, and the RX 9070 XT, are always sold at 45 to 55% above the suggested retail price of the basic model – the prices that NVIDIA and the AMD list.
Even mid -range cards such as RTX 5070 and 5070 TI, and the RX 9070 is increased from 20 to 27%. And this assumes that you can find these cards, because the stock tends to disappear immediately.
The NVIDIA RTX 5090, the most powerful card available for consumers at the moment, is an excellent example in the data from the Nexus Gamers. With an average price of just over $ 3,000 from lists of available sales cards accumulated on Amazon, Newegg and Best Buy, it sells for 53% compared to its $ 2,000 “base” price. The RTX 5080 has a worse marking, selling an average of $ 1,570, an increase of 57%. Even Intel B580 arch, which is intended to be a more affordable option, sells for more than 50% more than its PDSF of $ 250.
There are many reasons, but depressing. The low stock levels are constant throughout the industry while PC players rush to try to find an upgrade, to say nothing about the scalpers encompassing them to try to withdraw more money from people.
The partners of the complementary board of directors and the retailers also try to make the situation as much as possible, with only a small percentage of GPU actually manufactured and sold at the “base price”, flooded by an order of magnitude, more cards made with unnecessary “upgrades” to raise prices.
And it is before reporting on the possible prioritization of Nvidia and AMD of business and startup partners during the “AI” boom, reflecting the shortages of the cryptocurrency extraction race a few years ago.
It is much easier to find some cards, especially those in a low budget … than no one seems to want. This is particularly true for cards that offer variants of 8 GB and 16 GB, because nobody wants 8 GB cards while much more powerful cards are available (allegedly) from $ 100 more.
Based on the small data made public, 16 GB of versions of the RTX 5060 TI and the RX 9060 XT have exceeded their variants from 8 GB from more than ten to one. The RTX 5060 is the most easily available card in the Nexus players survey … which makes sense, because it has examined very badly, when it was examined at all (Nvidia did not offer it to the media).
The whole video is well worth a watch. But if you don’t have time and need a point to remember … It’s just a bad time to be a PC player who needs a new graphics card. And it doesn’t seem like it will improve so early.
