On Friday, the Clippers NBA Summer League competition against Houston’s Rockets offered Kobe Brown to show that he is able to be a rotating player for the Clippers this season.

But the misfortune struck in the third quarter when Brown tangled with a rocket defender who fell on his right ankle. Brown sat on the Clippers bench for a few minutes before boxing in their locker room.

Brown did not return to the 95-92 victory of the Clippers at the Cox Pavilion Friday evening after having supported what the team described as a contusion of the right ankle.

Brown begins his third season with the Clippers and the team is impatient for the overall choice of 3023 at the global draft to have an impact. He will earn $ 2.65 million this season and will have a qualification offer for next season with $ 4.7 million.

“He must continue to do what he did this evening,” said Clippers assistant coach Jerry Castleberry, the team’s summer league coach. “Play a great defense. Do the right readings. We talked about the entire training camp. Put yourself in the painting, draw two, do the right reads and if they put a little one, he showed his ability to mark a lag tonight and do it in the right way – quickly, not to dance, just dancing, just going directly to the point.

Brown scored 10 points in the first quarter, in four for five on the field, making his two three -point attempts. On one of these three, he ran the length of the court and took a pass for a lob dunk.

Brown finished with 14 points, four rebounds and four assists in 20 minutes.

“The ankle is good,” said Castleberry. “The ankle is fine. Just precaution. It will be fine.”

The Clippers gave up Jordan Miller before the start of the summer league, but they still had a list place, so he was added to the team.

He did not disappoint on Friday, producing 23 points and 11 rebounds.

Miller had the opportunity to show the Clippers – and to any other team – how the summer league is useful to him.

“With this team, it takes a lot of humility. Do not think less of you but also think less of you,” said Miller. “Just find a way to maximize the role it is. It’s not just for me, but it’s for all guys. We have guys who can score. Draw and be able to spoil in a defensive way. »»

It was in defense that the recruit of the Clippers Yanic Konan Niederhauser was at his best.

Niederhauser blocked four shots and managed 10 rebounds. He used his seven feet frame as a deterrent and showed why the clippers drafted him from Penn State.

“He did everything he was supposed to do,” said Castleberry. “He was great with the protection of the rim, changing shots and I thought it was good.”
