The co -president of the youth wing of the German Green Party, Jakob Blasel, calls on Germany to nationalize large energy and steel companies to fight climate change.

BLASEL, from The Green Youth, told Spiegel News magazine that RWE and Leag energy companies, as well as the largest German steel manufacturer, Thyssenkrupp, should be expropriated.

“These are the three most climatic harmful companies. Germany could and should nationalize these companies,” Blasel said in an interview published by the magazine on Saturday.

He accused companies of being guided only by short -term and scholarship markets. “But if they are in the hands of consumers and workers, the incentive to operate permanently increases. Because no one wants to work for a company that destroys their own future.”

Blasel said he knew that his proposal goes beyond what is currently being discussed politically. “But what is currently happening politically is not enough to combat climate change,” he said, adding that the fight is undermined by “lobbyists of fossil fuels”.

Employees of companies working with fossil fuels should receive prospects in other areas, also suggested Blasel.

“Anyone who has currently a permanent job and the advantages of good collective agreements must be taken in other non -fossil fuel sectors of companies without any cut.”

Green youth are traditionally found on the left of the Green Party on the political spectrum.
