Greg Abbott Vows To Keep Calling Redistricting Sessions Until ‘Derelict’ Dems Come Back To Work
Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott announced on Tuesday that he will recall the Texas Legislative Assembly for a second special session next week if the dozens of absent Democratic State legislators protesting against the redistribution of mid-Decennia led by the GOP do not come back in time to reach the Quorum on Friday.
The quorum requires that 100 of the 150 members of the Chamber of State be present to advance legislative affairs, which prompted 51 Democrats in Texas to flee the State to retain the vote which will approve the redesigned districts of the Congress. Abbott’s wish to call more sessions makes the democrats’ apparently futile efforts to interrupt more expensive redistribution – while flight legislators continue to face $ 500 per day, they jump their session, and Abbott has no limits to the number of sessions that he is authorized to call. Abbott previously said that he would continue countless special sessions for the new district card to approve on Sunday on Fox News, saying that the redistribution battle could hypothetically continue “for years literally”.
“I am authorized to call a special session every 30 days. As soon as it is over, I will call another, then another, then another, then another,” said Abbott. “If they get back into the state of Texas, they will be arrested and taken to the Capitol.
