Trump’s Enforcement of Immigration Law Now Leading to Worker Shortages? So What? – RedState

With the repression of President Trump’s immigration comes from all kinds of side effects. It is inevitable; When you have up to 20 million people in the country illegally, and when a significant number of them are ready to work under the table for low wages, by cutting a lot of these employers, some of these unsuitable employers. Of course, hitting them with charges for knowingly hired illegal foreigners would sting a little too.

Now, Tuesday, we see a slightly whining report that Trump’s immigration repression makes it more difficult for construction companies to find workers. But they don’t tell you everything.

Immigration policies of the Trump administration lead to workers’ shortages and delayed projects in the construction industry, according to a new report.

An investigation carried out in July and August By the associated entrepreneurs of America and the National Center for Construction Education and Research found more than one in four respondents said that their companies were affected by an increase in the application of immigration in the last six months.

Respondents said the increase in immigration application made companies recruiting workers more difficult for companies. Ten percent of companies said they used the H-2B visa program, which is used to recruit non-agricultural foreign workers, to recruit employees and hourly workers.

The Congress settled the cap For H-2B visa allowances at 66,000 during the year 2026. The program offers temporary work for the first and second halves of the year to foreign employees.

They hire H2B workers, of course, because these workers are cheaper than American workers. If they weren’t, there would be no request. But why, as a nation, would we import workers when we have people here unemployed?

But this is not the real eyebrow dam in this room. See if you can find the omission here:

Five percent of the respondents said that their work sites or work sites had been visited by immigration agents and 10% said workers were reporting or resigning due to immigration allegations.

Entrepreneurs in Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, Nebraska and South Carolina were more likely to be affected by the application of immigration, according to the report.

The report revealed that workers’ shortages were the most common reason for the project delays. Two -thirds of companies said that at least one project in the past six months has been postponed, canceled or reduced. The survey has taken into account more than 1,300 people in various contracting and construction companies.

Work sites are not visited by immigration agents looking for H2B workers. They are visited by immigration agents looking for illegal foreigners and, as we have recently noted in a history of Georgia, they find them.

Will the illegal extraterrestrials work at a lower cost, even cheaper than H2B immigrants? It seems likely. Will the withdrawal of these illegal foreigners require construction companies that they offer a higher salary to attract American workers, or even legal immigrants? This too seems likely.

Does all this count? No. Not a little bit.

We do not ignore the laws because some private companies may be required to pay higher wages to hire people who are legally in the country. We do not ignore the laws because someone has been in the country illegally for five years, or ten, or a thousand. We do not ignore the laws because they have an anchoring child at university. We apply the law, because it is the law and what the government – the law – made for anyone, it must do for everyone, or it should not do for anyone. If someone does not like the law as it is, it is free to work to change it, but they cannot ignore it – or challenge it.

This therefore causes headaches in certain circles because the federal government now applies immigration laws, as they should have done from the start.

So what?
