Trump Grabs Control of DC Police, Promises National Guard Deployment
For at least the next 30 days, the Trump administration will control the application of local laws at DC
President Trump ordered on Monday that the Metropolitan Police Department placed under Federal Emergency Control. He also said that he activated the DC National Guard for a deployment of around 800 soldiers in the national capital.
No emergency takes place at DC which corresponds to Trump justifications for the move. Violent crimes rates are a hollow of several decades, according to DOJ data; Monday’s videos highlighted the absurdity of the situation by showing federal agents patrolling a serene shopping center.
But at a press conference on Monday, Trump was flanked by a casting of former Fox News hosts who became responsible for the application of laws and other long -lasting matches he appointed to positions of immense authority. They spent themselves in turn as a landscape of Max’s mad style in a sudden need for federal and military action. At one point, the newly confirmed American lawyer for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro (Judge Jeanine at Fox News Tweeters) reached decades and threatened the “young punks” which apparently exceeded the capital.
In this context, this decision is par excellence for Trump II. There is no urgency to justify what is a cheeky power game, although there is the attempt with a low effort now familiar to persuade their subscribers, we take place. On the one hand, it is an absurd game for attention. On the other, it is a serious abusive of the presidential power that senior officials blocked during Trump’s first term.
Under two executive orders, Trump published Trump on Monday, federalized DC police for 30 days. According to the law, any extension beyond this period requires an authorization from the congress.
At the same time, the defense secretary Pete Hegseth said that 800 members of the DC National Guard will begin to deploy in DC during the coming week. Their declared objective, according to a proclamation entitled “Restoration of the law and order in the District of Columbia”, is to “fight against the epidemic of crime” at DC
