Progressive Ideology Hijacked Leftist Women’s God-Given Instincts – RedState

There’s a question that floats around conservative circles and makes polite society squirm, and that’s usually how you know it’s worth asking. It went viral again since it was posted on X in November.

Why do so many modern liberal women speak with open hostility toward Christianity while expressing sympathy, or at least silence, toward Islam? Not cultural Muslims living quietly in America. No neighbors or colleagues. The ideology itself, particularly its fundamentalist expressions openly hostile to women’s rights, autonomy and safety.

This question is not hateful. It’s not ignorant. He is observant.

Anyone who has bothered to read basic reporting on Iran, Afghanistan or parts of the Middle East knows the score. Women beaten for showing their hair. Girls excluded from school. Forced marriages. Honor killings. Legal systems where a woman’s testimony is worth half that of a man.

This is not marginal misinformation. This is a documented reality. And yet, the loudest voices denouncing patriarchy, oppression, and “toxic masculinity” are strangely silent when these realities arise. Or worse yet, they deflect, excuse, or berate anyone who notices.

So what’s going on here?

The concept that best explains it is what many conservatives have begun to call toxic empathy. Empathy detached from the truth. Compassion is separate from wisdom. Feelings elevated above facts. Empathy itself is not the problem. Empathy is good. Christianity invented it as a moral virtue long before it became a hashtag. The problem is empathy that has been weaponized, redirected and inflated until it trumps common sense and moral clarity.

When empathy becomes the highest authority, it no longer questions whether something is good or true. He only asks who is like the victim and who can be called the oppressor.

Christianity, especially biblical Christianity, makes moral demands. He talks about sin. He talks about self-sacrifice. He speaks of an authority that does not bow to personal feelings. This is offensive to a culture built on self-definition and personal autonomy. Islam, in progressive circles, is left out not because it is soft, but because it is categorized as “the other.” Criticizing him seems politically dangerous. Defending it seems virtuous, even when the facts say otherwise.

This is not about theology. This is a story.

Progressive ideology teaches people to classify the world according to hierarchies of power. Oppressor and oppressed. Majority and minority. West and non-West. Christianity, which is the basis of Western civilization, is by default seen as the villain. Islam, being associated with non-Western cultures, is treated as fragile and untouchable, regardless of its doctrines or actual results.

This is where toxic empathy comes in. It demands an allegiance to feelings rather than facts, to stories rather than reality.

There is another uncomfortable aspect to this conversation, and yes, it is sensitive. But the truth usually is.

Many progressive women delayed or completely rejected starting a family. Fewer children. Subsequent marriages. Often nothing at all. It’s not an insult. This is a sociological fact supported by mountains of data. According to this NBC News poll,

Gen Z women who voted for Harris ranked having children as the second least important thing in their personal definition of success.

When you remove family as the primary outlet for nurturing, dedication, and sacrifice, those instincts don’t disappear. They are redirected.

Women were designed by God to nurture. This instinct is powerful. When rooted in the home, it builds stable families, communities and societies. When it is detached from this foundation, it clings to abstract causes. Movements. Ideologies. Hashtags. Political crusades.

You can see it everywhere. The emotional ferocity with which some women defend abortion, not as a tragic necessity but as a moral good. How activism becomes identity. The way dissent is treated as heresy. These are not motivated positions. These are emotional commitments.

Christianity challenges this by calling women and men to orderly loves. God first. The second family. Community then. Self last. This hierarchy profoundly threatens a culture based on self-expression and personal sovereignty.

Christianity must therefore be dismantled. Mocked. Redefined. Neutralized.

Islam, on the other hand, is rarely examined honestly in progressive spaces, because an honest examination would require moral judgment. And moral judgment was declared the ultimate sin. The irony is painful. The same activists who recoil from the often initially distorted phrase “women submit to their husbands” will bend over backwards to avoid condemning systems in which all women submit to all men, enforced by violence and the law.

Toxic empathy does not protect women. It leaves them behind. This teaches people to ignore reality if it disrupts the preferred narrative. This is training a generation to nurture ideas rather than people, causes rather than children, feelings rather than the truth. And that leaves us with a culture that can’t answer simple questions honestly.

Christianity is not the enemy of women. This constructed the very concept of the inherent worth of women. This protects families. This grounds empathy in truth. The problem isn’t that progressive women care too much. This is because they have been taught to worry indiscriminately.

Empathy without truth is not love. It is kindness that cannot heal.
