The most essential objective of a military force is to defend its nation, its people and its way of life. As many have well noted, recent years have brought a seismic social transformation that has reorganized the US military’s institutional loves from constitutionalism, liberty and founding principles to an affection for the most radical elements of progressive political doctrines.

Over my 20-year military career, I have seen the force transform from a place where the traditional family was a sacred pillar to a place where service members risk investigation to uphold the most fundamental ontological values. So it was music to my ears when then-Secretary of Defense – now Secretary of War – Pete Hegseth proclaimed that “DEI is dead in the Department of Defense.” Yet despite his best efforts, this statement is challenged in action by social insurgents who remain firmly entrenched at the highest levels of Pentagon leadership.

It is widely reported that many offices dedicated to DEI initiatives have simply been renamed. Even in the commands which have truly closed these premises of the political commissar, the ideology remains represented by numerous military and civilian employees in uniform. Closing the Church does not automatically deconvert its members. This reality presented itself again recently in a subtle – but strategic – choice of terminology contained in a recent War Department policy update.

The Ministry of Defense has updated DOD Instruction 1327.06: Military leave, liberty and administrative absencee in August, added language referring to “non-biological” parents (see post X above). This update, made seven months into the second Trump administration, is important because it makes military policy a means of legitimizing the activist language of the so-called “transgender” movement.

When I joined the army, it was well understood that it was mothers who gave birth to children, but not fathers. Husband and wif life changed to spouse when former President Obama overturned the principle of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” The objective was to offer institutional legitimacy to natural or adoptive parents choosing a homosexual lifestyle. The Biden administration went further by mandating the transgender movement in the military. Culturally Marxist terms like “birth people” and “non-birth” and parenting were adopted by government agencies as so-called flags of “progress” flew alongside the stars and stripes at federal facilities. This cultural revolution also spread to the armed forces.

Some people wonder why I am drawing attention to what might seem like a small matter of a few words out of thousands in a single document. The answer is that institutional language is important because it conveys values and teaches people how to think. If you can reduce a father to a “non-biological” parent and elevate same-sex relationships to the same level as holy matrimony, you are undermining the most fundamental foundations on which our society is built. An army that denies reality cannot know what is worth defending.

The language of transgender worship is that of a dark fantasy that denies women the biblical dignity of representing glory of man (See 1 Corinthians 11:17). It reduces female to a stereotype, and women to a pejorative “cis”, “chest breastfeeder”, “menstruating person” or “person giving birth” identity. Men are considered “unborn”. Leaving old-school misogyny behind, the revolutionary architects of this language have broadcast a complete contempt for humanity, and women in particular, believing that their existence is so cheap that misguided and depraved men can take on the role like a costume. If you can get the military to follow such an evil line of thinking, you can condition its members to simply follow the orders given to them, with complete disregard for whether they are consistent with the defense, preservation, protection and conservation of the United States of America.

When I initially brought up this topic in a social media post (see above; I also shared it on LinkedIn), some responded that non-biological parent was referring to adoptive parents. This is false. Adoption And adoptive parents are separately referenced in the regulations a total of 64 times, with a separate section on adoption on page 30. The inclusion of “non-biological parents” as a category is an entirely separate issue.

Additionally, the previous version (.PFD) of the Department of Defense’s discharge instruction contained no reference to “non-biological” parents. He referred to childbirth as an event reserved for women.

This reality-based version of the War Department’s leave policy was implemented on January 15, 2021, under the Biden Administration. It took until 2025 for the military to insert transgender language, in direct violation of President Trump’s directives. Executive Order 14168 – Defending Women from Ideological Gender Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government, Executive Order 14185 – Restoration of the American Combat Forceand January 29, 2025 Memorandum from the Secretary of Defense: Restoring America’s Fighting Force.

The Under Secretary of War for Personnel and Readiness was charged with carrying out these orders throughout the War Department. But that office, led by Anthony Tata, inserted and published transgender language in the new leave policy. This is the same office responsible for reinstating military members deported by the Biden administration due to illegal COVID-related policies. It took 11 months to reintegrate a total of four soldiers out of the more than 8,000 expelled.

The problem with senior War Department lieutenants working to thwart the agenda Americans voted for in November 2024 runs deeper. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll recently told Politico’s White House bureau chief Dasha Burns that he sees no difference between men and women in the U.S. military’s crucible known as Ranger School. “I probably saw 100 soldiers walk by and I couldn’t tell you their gender,” he said of a recent visit to a Ranger School training site. This comes despite years of well-documented reports that standards have been changed for the forced integration of women into this extremely physically demanding course. This was done on the orders of the Obama administration for social engineering purposes. Evidence of the detrimental impact this has on war readiness continues to be dismissed by the ideological powerful in the US military complex.

I appreciate that Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the military is done with the woke agenda. But a worrying number of his subordinates and policy editors disagree. Something serious must be done to combat the deep-rooted rebellious military culture of the Obama and Biden eras. A force that denies reality and resists legitimate rules constitutes – as many of our ancestors warned – a threat to freedom.
