The Hamas terrorist who murdered surveillance soldier Corporal Noa Marciano while she was being held captive in Gaza has been eliminated, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Wednesday.
The attack on a group of terrorists, including Muhammad Issam Hassan al-Habil, reportedly followed a Hamas attack overnight that injured IDF soldiers in northern Gaza, in violation of the ceasefire agreement.
Al-Habil, a key commander of a Hamas cell, was killed in the airstrike in the Shati refugee camp in Gaza City, the Israeli military said in a statement.
“In response to the blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement overnight, earlier today (Wednesday), the IDF and the ISA struck and eliminated terrorist Muhammad Issam Hassan al-Habil, leader of a Hamas terrorist cell,” the IDF confirmed.

The Israeli military also said that, through interrogation by the Israel Security Agency (ISA), al-Habil brutally murdered 19-year-old Marciano while he was a Hamas captive.
The IDF soldier was kidnapped at the Nahal Oz outpost during the massacre carried out by the terrorist organization on October 7.
She was injured during an IDF airstrike on November 9, 2023, while detained by Hamas, and was later taken to Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.
Her body was finally recovered by Israeli forces in November 2023 and returned to Israel for burial in Modi’in, where she lived with her family.
After news of al-Habil’s death broke, Marciano’s mother, Adi Marciano, said the family had been promised that everyone involved in her daughter’s murder would be brought to justice, according to the Times of Israel.
“There’s no real comfort in that,” she said. “But we know that justice has been done, even if only partially. Nothing will bring Noa back to us.”

“This elimination brings an end to the Marciano family, as well as to the IDF and the ISA,” the IDF said.
“The IDF and the ISA will continue to operate against any terrorists involved in the brutal massacre of October 7 and against any attempts by terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip to carry out terrorist attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians.”
Israeli forces responded overnight to multiple security incidents, including attacks on IDF troops.

Around 1 a.m., terrorists opened fire on IDF forces in the Daraj Tuffah area, seriously injuring a reserve officer.
IDF troops responded and carried out additional strikes in the area to eliminate the threat.
In the attack in which al-Habil was killed, three suspects were identified approaching the yellow line in southern Khan Younis and were considered a threat to troops. The suspects were then beaten, the Israeli army said.
In addition to al-Habil, those killed included Bilal Abu Assi, commander of Hamas’ Nukhba platoon who led the massacre at Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7.

Abu Assi allegedly participated in holding hostages who died in captivity while directing terrorist plots against IDF troops.
