Hanging death of Delta State student ruled suicide

The student of the Delta State University whose body was found suspended from a tree earlier this week died by suicide, revealed an autopsy by the office of the state medical examiner of Mississippi.
The body of Demartravion “Trey” Reed – a 21 -year -old black student – was found early Monday morning in a tree near the courts and pickleball dormitories of the State of the Delta State. The incident occurred during the planned celebrations of the centenary of the university, leading to the cancellation of prices and to events related to the birthday.
Delta State University police chief Michael Peeler said at a press conference that there was no evidence of unfair play and that Reed died by suicide.
In a statement published on Tuesday, the Coroner of the County of Bolivar Randolph “Rudy” Seals Jr. said: “The deceased has not undergone any laceration, bruises, composed fractures, broken bones or injuries in accordance with aggression”, on the basis of a preliminary investigation.

On Thursday, the office of the medical examiner of the state of the Mississippi confirmed the conclusions initially reported by the County coroner.
“The results were in line with the initial investigation, determining the cause of death and the manner of death as suicide,” Cleveland police said in a press release. “The final toxicology results are pending and can take two to four weeks.”
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family and friends of Reed during this very difficult period,” said Tribble Travis Police Chief. “We want to encourage anyone who is struggling to seek help.”
But even before the results were announced, Reed’s family called for an independent investigation and urged the police to provide recordings of security cameras and other videos combined as proof.
Some online rumors have suggested that Reed’s body had broken the members and other injuries incompatible with suicide, but the County coroner challenged these allegations.
According to the lawyer for civil rights Ben Crump, who represents the family, the relatives of Reed plan to seek a second independent autopsy – whose cost will be covered by the autopsy initiative of the Know Your Rights rights, a legal non -profit organization founded by Colin Kaepernick – once the authorities will liberate the body of Reed.
“The death of Trey spoke of the collective memory of a community that has undergone a historic injury in many years and many deaths,” said Crump, according to CBS WJTV local affiliate. “Peace will only come by arriving at the truth. We thank Colin Kaepernick for supporting this family in mourning and the cause of justice and truth. ”
