The iPhone is the least exciting part of the iPhone event

In eight days, we will have our first official overview of the new iPhone, with, most likely, the kind of anticlimatic disappointment which only comes after a long anticipation. Like each of its predecessors, the iPhone 17 was newspapers long before it existed as a product, and it is almost impossible that a real object is up to this kind of feverish and consumed accumulation.
There is a danger of going too far in the other direction, of course. It is rather weird that we ended up thinking that the launch of this year’s iPhone will be actively boring, as I pointed out elsewhere; The 17 air is a daring strategy and I can’t wait to see if it is paying for Apple (while feeling skeptical when). It’s just that the rest of the new handsets is probably much more prudent. A model is probably unattractive, and the other three are almost certainly iterative. Which would be added to a better launch event described as medium.
Fortunately, these four new iPhones are not, at best our information, the total sum of Apple’s plans for next Tuesday. And the other online products for a refreshment, except to suffer less from the relentless Rumongeon which afflicts each unprecedented iPhone, are in slightly more interesting and unpredictable places from which to develop.
The Apple Watch, for example, spent much less time in the rumor mill than iPhones. We have good authority that Apple will update the three models (the series, ultra and se) for the first time since 2022, but we do not have an image as clear as we are iPhones.
Apple Watch is a younger device in a younger market and has made a shorter distance on the path of merchant. While the smartphone has reached a point where most recent high -end models are functionally almost identical (at least compared to differences 10 years ago), the intelligent watch remains extremely disparate. There are still decisions to make. Do you focus on battery life or screen quality? Thin or robust design? Have you dodal for a rectangular or round display? Do you watch an accessory or an autonomous device?
In some respects – and it is worth recognizing that the company will fight against the natural inertia of the dominant player in a unilateral market – the Apple Watch is at a inflection point which could cause a major change. As my colleague Jason Snell has thought about it, the product could follow the example of the iPhone and the iPad and divide into more differentiated sub-marks. In other words, it could become weird. And even if this is not the case, we must at least see the interesting upgrade to the Apple Watch SE since its beginnings in 2020, with a larger construction and a more powerful processor putting the experience of the series within the reach of the budgetary consumer.
And then there is AirPods Pro. Apple wireless headphones are traditionally associated with iPhone launch events in the way Apple Watch is, but they often go out in September. We are starting to think that the third generation AirPods Pro can be announced alongside the iPhone 17 or, if not, should at least follow a week or two thereafter in their own separate press release.
The AirPods Pro 3 will arrive three years after the second generation model appeared for the first time (although we have obtained a USB-C minor update in September 2023) and should be worth waiting. We expect a heart rate sensor, improvements to the characteristic of very significant noise of noise and a live translation most likely. The more a redesigned case! We have heard Apple’s plans for years to make its headphones more portable for the health of a day, and this could very well be a major step in this transition.
Technological websites like to write on the iPhone because it has been the largest product in the world for more than a decade. But the days of the smartphone under the spotlights are counted, and the interesting part is what comes next. A candidate is the laptop, or, perhaps more plausibly, the set of several integrated laptops. This means that when the iPhone 17 leaves the scene next Tuesday and the Apple Watch and the Airpods take its spotlight, we could see an overview of the future. Which is much more important, in the end, than a redesigned camera module.
