Here’s What Iran Just Said About the Strait of Hormuz

We saw President Donald Trump take the bold step of launching US strikes against military targets on the all-important Iranian island of Kharg, through which much of their oil passes.

While Trump said they wiped out the military targets, he also clarified that they did not hit the oil facilities. But he warned Iran that if it did not open the Strait of Hormuz, it would consider striking it. He also said the United States and other countries would send warships to ensure the strait was opened. Marines were also dispatched to the area.

After Trump’s warning and action against Kharg, we get what looks like a huge cave coming from Iran.

Iran said on Saturday that all countries except the United States and Israel could pass through the Strait of Hormuz, in a desperate bid to break up the coalition less than a day after the United States bombed military targets on its oil-critical Kharg Island.

“In fact, the Strait of Hormuz is open,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.

“It is only closed to oil tankers and the ships belong[ing] to our enemies, to those who attack us and to their allies. Others are free to pass,” Araghchi told MS NOW.

So this immediately causes them to lose most of the influence they might have thought they had, probably out of fear of what Trump would do. He has shown them in the past that he will go all the way.

They try to salvage things, hoping to break up the coalition by saying only people are shooting at them.

Araghchi noted that many ships “prefer” not to undertake the journey due to “security concerns,” but insisted “that has nothing to do with us.”

“And I can say that the strait is not closed, but it is only closed to American, Israeli, you know, ships and tankers, and not to others. »

The United States does not have much traffic through the strait; the real impact was felt in Asian markets. If they say they’re letting these countries through, that should calm down these markets. It also gives the impression that the report of Iranian mines in the strait is probably a myth.

Things happen on Saturday.

Two Indian-flagged tankers carrying liquefied petroleum gas crossed the strait, Reuters reported on Saturday.

“They crossed the Strait of Hormuz safely early this morning and are on their way to India,” said Rajesh Kumar Sinha, minister of ports and shipping in New Delhi.

Araghchi claimed that many ships were passing through the strait.

He clearly hopes to prevent another attack by the United States and Israel around the strait.

Aragchi also tried to quell questions about the condition of “supreme leader,” Mojtaba Khamenei.

“He sent his message yesterday and he will fulfill his duties – he is fulfilling his duties in accordance with the constitution and will continue to do so,” Araghchi added.

If Khamenei is able to work, then he should be able to deliver a message in his own voice or make a physical appearance. But he didn’t do it. So it’s not convincing.

We’ll have to see what Trump’s response to this will be. But it looks like Iran knows it has gone too far and is furiously backtracking.
