Cheating allegations rock Canada-Sweden curling Olympics match

A curling match between Canada and Sweden erupted with an exchange of profanities over allegations of cheating on Friday.

Late in the competition, an 8-6 victory by Canada’s Brad Jacobs over Team Sweden’s Niklas Edin, the Swedes’ Oskar Eriksson, appeared to accuse Canada’s Marc Kennedy of hitting rocks twice to gain an advantage.

Kennedy didn’t take it well.

“I haven’t done it once,” Kennedy said on the ice in a videotaped exchange. “You can go.”

Eriksson doubled the lead.

“I’ll show you a video after the match,” Eriksson said. “I’ll show you a video where he’s two meters above the hog line.”

“Come on, Oskar. Fuck you,” Kennedy replied.

Both sides appealed to officials, and Canada also asked referees to keep an eye on the matter.

After the victory, which made Team Jacobs 3-0, Kennedy said he wasn’t a fan of the accusations.

“I don’t like being accused of cheating, so I told him what I thought about it,” he said, according to the National Post. “…It’s good for the sport guys, it’s heating up there, it’s a battle, we’ve faced each other a million times.”

Eriksson did not speak to reporters, according to the outlet.

Edin, whose team is still winless after three matches at the Winter Games, sided with his teammate.

“In my opinion, it’s pretty clear what’s going on there,” Edin said. “Why do they [the Canadians] start yelling about it, I’m not really sure. It’s a little sad that they start yelling instead of just taking it and doing better. We have no reason to lie about this. All of these games are filmed on video and there are numerous cameras. If they say they hit it, they probably did.
