Highguard is shutting down this month

Another high-profile live game will be shutting down shortly after launch: this time, it’s the free-to-play team shooter. High Guard.
Developer Wildlight Entertainment says that while High Guard reached 2 million players, the game will be permanently discontinued on March 12. That’s less than two months after the game launched on January 26. “Despite the passion and hard work of our team, we have not been able to build a sustainable player base to support the game in the long term,” the studio explained.
Before the game ends for good, it will receive one final update tonight or tomorrow that will add a new character and a new weapon, among other changes.
All of this comes as publishers and developers continue to chase record player numbers and steady revenue streams from big live service hits like Fortnite. However, space continues to prove incredibly difficult to enter, with recent success stories like Arc Raiders incredibly rare. Even single-player focused studios like Alan Wake Developer Remedy has attempted to expand into live service releases with less than stellar results.
