Several left-wing American legislators went to Mexico City during the weekend to attend a summit aimed at questioning American world domination, organized by the director of an openly anti-capitalist and anti-American organization.

The second annual pan -American congress, which took place from Friday to Sunday, brought together leftist “delegates” of the Americas, including Democratic legislators such as representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib of Minnesota, according to the event website. The summit was organized by the leader of Progressive International – a left -wing radical group that describes capitalism as a “virus” which must be “eradicated” – in partnership with Morena, the Left Party leader of Mexico. Although the event website offered only waves themes such as “equality” and “solidarity”, David Adler, general coordinator of international progressive and one of the main coordinators of the summit, in a television interview before the summit that the event was aimed at “confronting” what he described as an increase in authoritarian and fascist threats through the continent. He underlined the objective of the global dynamic of “conversely” power by keeping the decision -making authority of Washington, DC, and towards developing countries in the “South World South” region.

One of the most striking expressions of anti-American feeling came from the representative Delia Ramirez of Illinois, who made remarks during the opening ceremony.

“I am a fellow Guatemalan before being American,” said Ramirez in Spanish, whose parents immigrated from Guatemala. The deputy – who represents segments of Chicago and her suburbs – also accused the United States of being “addicted to war” and of prioritizing “imperialism, militarization, conquest, control, competition in her attempt at domination”.

Ramirez’s husband is illegally in the United States, according to his own website, which highlights his references as “the only member of the congress in a mixed status marriage”. The Ramirez office did not respond to several requests for comments from the Daily Call News Foundation.

In addition to immigration, the current war between Israel and Hamas also presented significantly during the event, characterized on several occasions as a genocide by the speakers of the event.

Omar, one of the most vocal criticisms in the Israel Congress, spoke in a panel entitled “Visions for the World”, where she discussed the Palestinian cause, according to Adler. Omar was withdrawn from the Chamber’s Foreign Affairs Committee in 2023 due to repeated anti -Semitic remarks.

Tlaib, the colleague “Squad” of Omar who shares a history of anti-Semitism, received a standing ovation at the summit when it was praised by Mauricio Jaramillo Jassir, Colombia Minister of Multilateral Affairs, as a “symbol of resistance” against fascism and credited for the leading efforts to advance the cause of the Palesstinians in the United States ” leading efforts to advance the cause of the Palestinians in the resistance of the United States “

The other Democrats delegates to the event include representatives. Ayanna Presley of Massachusetts, Summer Lee de Pennsylvania and Jesús Gilberto García de l’Illinois, who are all members of the Progressive Caucus of the Congress. The offices of Omar, Tlaib, Presley, Lee and García did not respond to the request for comment from the DCNF.

“The comments of these democrats are despicable and underline their commitment to put the Americans last,” said the White House spokesperson Liz Huston, to the DCNF. “In striking contrast, President Trump works tirelessly to conclude peace agreements, expel illegal foreign criminals and advance the interests of the United States in the country and abroad.” (Related: the political violence that increases under Trump is not exactly “extreme right” after all)

Progressive international describes the United States as the “Lynchpin” of imperial violence, accusing it of “destroying the nation after the nation, leaving a trace of violence and sorrow in their wake”. At the same time, the group minimizes the threat posed by communist countries like China and the defense of the world South to reduce dependence on the United States in favor of closer links with China.

The members of Progressive International include groups associated with pro-Hamas activism, such as the Palestinian Youth Movement and national students for justice in Palestine, as well as the Democratic Socialists of America. Progressive International has not responded to the request for DCNF comments.

Meanwhile, Adler criticized President Donald Trump’s prices as a “imperialist tool in the United States” and said that the Panamérican Congress would provide a forum to coordinate a “collective strategy” against what he described as coercive policy of the Trump administration.

Trump granted Mexico an extension of 90 days to negotiate a trade agreement with the United States after which he called a “very successful” telephone call with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, which belongs to the Morena party. Sheinbaum herself made an appearance during the event.

Gerardo Fernández Noroña, president of the Mexican Senate and member of Morena, denounced what he called “faces of fascism” in his remarks, distinguishing “persecution of migrants in the United States”. Noroña condemned the repression of immigration from the Trump administration as “unfair” and said that people were “persecuted just to be a migrant” and “for the color of your skin or your nationality”.

Neither the Sheinbaum nor Morena office responded to the request for DCNF comments.
