House Republican recognizes transgender Dem as ‘the gentleman from Delaware’

Republican Rep. Andrew Clyde of Georgia called Democratic Rep. Sarah McBride a “gentleman from Delaware, Rep. McBride” when he gave the lawmaker the floor to speak on the House floor Tuesday.
McBride, who took office last year, identifies as a transgender woman.
“The People’s House recognizes basic biology,” Clyde said in an article on X that features the video clip of his remark.

Other House Republicans expressed support for their colleague’s decision.
“Tim ‘Sarah’ McBride is a man. Thanks to @Rep_Clyde for recognizing this fundamental biological truth in the House,” Rep. Mary Miller of Illinois noted in a message.

Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona supported Clyde on Tuesday, saying in a post: “A biological male can never be a woman, no matter what makeup he puts on. My friend @Rep_Clyde stands for the truth.”
