Mammotion says it has achieved a major leap in robot navigation

The mammotion announced Thursday a new robot mower navigation platform before the IFA fair in Berlin on Thursday: its three-fushing positioning system combines the Lidar, the kinematics in real time (RTK) and vision capacities in a single system.
Combination two Of these technologies is not uncommon. The older mowers have used a combination of Lidar and RTK for a large part of the last decade, while the combination of one or the other with vision navigation has gained in favor more recently. And although some robot mowers have the three technologies on board, they are not necessarily connected for navigation and serve other operating objectives of the mowers.
The mammotion claims that Tri-Fusion is the culmination of nine years of development effort, and that it is made available as an updates of the firmware for its recently published Luba Mini Lidar and the Yuka Mini Vision robot lawn mowers as well as several models to be canceled.

Mammotion
“Whether you have a compact town garden or a sprawling countryside lawn, it offers high precision mowing in any environment, sunny or shaded, open or obstructed, flat or hilly,” said Jayden Wei, CEO
No positioning technology is perfect
Each navigation technology has its own strengths and weaknesses. The vision has given the mowers to detect and prevent obstructions with precision, but it is useless in low light conditions, which is Lidar’s strength.
The vision combined with the Lidar is not perfect either, especially for wide lawns. Without any reference objects to help a mower to orient itself in the world, navigation will fail. And although RTK is the best solution for a specific positioning, a mower has no way of identifying obstacles in its own way, and its signal is easily obstructed by trees and buildings (ask Husqvarna on this subject).
By combining the three technologies in a single platform, Mammotion claims that real positioning precision in the centimeters can be obtained. Such a complaint is not new and was made in marketing for the mowers passed by the vision / RTK that we have seen and examined. The capture is that you must configure the mower as the possible recommendations of the manufacturer, which I have still been able to perform in my tests.
Available in the United States and the United Kingdom later in 2025
The Mammotion Luba Mini AWD Lidar (€ 2,299), which can manage lawns up to 1,500 square meters (0.37 acres), was launched in Europe on July 31. Yuka’s smallest vision (€ 1,199) is also available in Europe. It can maintain lawns up to 700 square meters (0.17 acres). The two mowers will be delivered in the American and British markets later this year.
