No one should lose sight of the fact that the National Guard was only present in Washington, DC, as part of a larger political communications program. They are there because of a legal loophole created by the district’s lack of statehood and, therefore, lack of democratic sovereignty. The shooter (the man in police custody is suspected, but it is not proven that he is this person) is guilty of the attack and the carnage that surrounded it. Donald Trump is responsible for them. This episode is the collateral damage of Trump’s abuse of power as president.
