Meta’s Threads is even further ahead of Elon Musk’s X on mobile, based on recent estimates from analytics firm Similarweb, reports. During the first part of January, Threads averaged around 143 million daily active users worldwide on mobile devices, compared to around 126 million for X.

Similarweb’s year-over-year snapshot shows a 37.8% year-over-year increase, while X’s daily mobile audience fell 11.9% over the same period. The situation is more mixed in the United States, where X still holds a limited advantage on mobile. Similarweb data puts X at around 21.2 million daily active US mobile users as of early January, compared to around 19.5 million for Threads.

However, Threads’ mobile usage in the United States has grown much faster over the past year, growing nearly 42 percent compared to X’s 18 percent.

Forbes also reported on Similarweb data for , another competing text platform launched by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey. Dorsey left the board in the summer of 2024, later stating he thought Bluesky was “literally repeating every mistake we’ve made as a company”, referring to Twitter. The social network opened registrations in 2024 and now has 3.6 million daily mobile users, which Similarweb says is down 44.4% year-over-year.

X s’est retrouvé une fois de plus dans l’eau chaude à cause du chatbot Grok de xAI, qui modifiait les photos de femmes sur la plate-forme à la demande des utilisateurs sans le consentement des personnes photographiées. In some cases, the chatbot also altered images of underage girls. This led the company to stop generating images for non-subscribers and place firmer guardrails on the types of images that could be generated. The delayed action came after weeks of Grok creating tens of thousands of these images, and after California Attorney General.
