Levels of toxic “permanent chemicals” in New Jersey’s public water systems fell by as much as 55 percent after the state moved to limit contaminants in drinking water, according to a Rutgers Health researcher who analyzed 19 years of monitoring data from across the state. Their findings in Environment International represent one of the first formal assessments of whether state regulations on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) effectively reduce contamination.
