With the High School 2025 football season which takes place soon, we take a look at each Washington County team.
Hancock Panthers
Coach:Greg Cartrette, first year
Last season: 3-6, chose to get out of the 1a West qualifiers.
The best reversers: Jayten McCarty, Jr., RB / LB; Tyler Clingerman, Sr., RB / LB; Nick McCusker, Jr., OL / DL; Ethan Hill, Sr., TE / LB; Landyn Clark, Sr., WR / DB; Logan Hendershot, Jr., QB / LB.
Key losses: Aiden McCarty, QB / RB / LB; Brody Stratton, OL / DL; Shawn Thomas, WR / DB; Jacob Anderson, RB / DB; Caden Miller, WR / DB.
Notes: Cartrette took over for Ron Hare, who led the panthers for four seasons. … Hancock, the smallest public high school in the state, won three games last year for the first time since 2018.… The last winning season of the Panthers took place in 2015, when they went 6-4. … Hancock will end the regular season with four consecutive games at home after playing four of his first five games on the road. … Jayten McCarty was an honorable mention of the coaches of all the counties on the attack and the defense last year in the second year, while Clingerman was an honorable mention in the secondary. … There are only 16 players on the list of panthers.
The biggest challenge: “Being able to fight against the injury bug,” said Cartrette. “When you have low figures, it could be one of your biggest obstacles.”
Reason for optimistic: “They learn and have fun,” said the coach.
