How to Hide App Names on Your iPhone Home Screen for a Clean Look

If you are sick and tired of too much footprint on the home screen of your iPhone, you can hide the names of application using a hidden iOS 18 functionality that few users know a lot. I made the change several months ago, and I love the way it makes the screen of my iPhone less busy.

Too many texts and application icons lead to congestion

Whenever you add an application to the home screen of your iPhone, it takes up space (whether you like this or not) as an icon that generally consists of the application logo and its name. Although Apple does not send iPhones with preinstalled third -party applications, it is easy to fill the entire home screen (and even several pages) with application icons.

I realized that about six to eight months using my iPhone 16. Between the application icons, their names, the number of unread alerts displayed at the top right of each icon and other visual elements such as widgets (and wallpapers), the overload of information on the screen made my smartphone in disorder.

While an easy solution to this could be to reduce the number of applications on the reception screen, I was looking for another way to keep the icons at my disposal (without increasing the number of taps it takes to open them). I came across a hidden iOS 18 functionality that allows you to hide the application names, and I was immediately hung.

When my home screen started to feel messy

I have been using an iPhone as a main device for almost four years now. Over the years, I have not only learned all the icons in my heart, but I also developed muscle memory for the most basic tasks, such as the opening phone, Apple, Whatsapp, Slack and other applications that I use regularly.

Consequently, I no longer need to look at the application names; It’s just text that takes up more space, bulky my home screen. If you feel the same thing about application names, hiding them could be a great way to give your iPhone a fresh, uncompromising and minimal look that highlights the best of application icons. If you want a clean and concentrated home screen with less distractions and noise, I strongly recommend that you try it.

How to hide the names of iPhones

To hide the application names on the home screen of your iPhone, press and hold it on an empty space on the home screen until the icons start to unleash.

Once they do, press the Modify button in the upper left corner of the screen.

Now select “Customize” from the drop -down menu.

A new menu must appear down the screen. If you use iOS 18, select “Grand”.

On the other hand, iOS 26 users should press the two adjacent squares to the right at the top of the menu.

When you activate the functionality, you should see that the application icons grow in real time, occupying the space occupied by the application names.

Now touch a screen space to close the menu and get out of the editing mode, and that’s it.

Remember that the size of the icon applies to all the pages of the home screen, so you cannot hide the application names for specific pages (at least not now).

Are there disadvantages to delete application names?

For me, deleting application names is like deleting additional information that my brain no longer needs to process. However, this may not be the best idea for new users, who recently bought their first iPhone and get used to all application icons, as this could lead to confusion.

If you are someone who adds and frequently adds applications (you can be a developer, a beta tester or simply a passionate who likes to try new ones), the deletion of application names could make more difficult to access similar icons.

Finally, I do not recommend this fun little tip for users who depend on the use of accessibility features on an iPhone, because they could always need text labels to differentiate applications.

Deleting application names is only a way to unclutter or customize the home screen of your iPhone.
