November on HBO Max won’t see as many new releases as October did, but the lineup yields just as much intrigue and excitement.

Accompanying HBO Original Series debuts of The Seduction and I Love LA are three Original Documentaries, and their topics couldn’t be further apart. First up is the three-part docuseries ALEX VS AROD, which explores Major League Baseball’s Alex Rodriguez scandal through an in-depth interview with the former star athlete. Next up is One to One: John & Yoko, which will take you into the iconic couple’s first year in New York City, followed by Thoughts & Prayers, an unnerving film that traces the multi-billion-dollar active shooter preparedness industry and its effects.

We’ll also see the streaming premieres of two A24 Films: Materialists, wherein a matchmaker (Dakota Johnson) must choose between a perfect match and her imperfect ex, and, from the visionary director Ari Aster, Eddington, which follows an intense political feud between a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and its mayor (Pedro Pascal). It also focuses on the tensions that ripple out into the community as a result, pitting neighbor against neighbor during the Covid lockdown.

Be sure to check out the full list of everything coming to HBO Max in November, before we dive deeper into the seven best new shows and movies coming to HBO Max this month.

1

I Love LA, Season One

An HBO Original Comedy Series, I Love LA follows a tight-knit group of friends who reunite after many years apart. As co-dependent and ambitious young adults, they come to see how time has changed them as they navigate the complexities of life, friendships, and relationships together.

The eight-episode series features a cast that includes Josh Hutcherson, of The Hunger Games franchise, Jordan Firstman (English Teacher TV series), and She Rides Shotgun’s Odessa A’zion. The show’s creator and writer, Rachel Sennot (Bodies Bodies Bodies), also stars as Maia. In an interview with Variety, Sennot said she’s exploring a new version of her old self with the show.

Expect the brutally honest, almost confrontational style of humor Sennot is known for, and it’s my sincerest hope we’ll be presented with fresh, unique take on what it’s like working and living in the City of Angels, with your best friends in tow, experiencing it all with you.

I Love LA debuts November 2, 2025, at 10:30 p.m. ET.

Alex vs ARod

Sports fans might want to carve out some time for the new HBO Original Documentary Alex Vs ARod, especially if you’re interested in exploring the dualities of one of Major League Baseball’s most controversial figures, Alex Rodriguez.

The current businessman’s sports career flourished as he rose to the pinnacle of athletic success, but it was toppled when the second scandal appeared. In January 2013, the Miami New Times published documents leaked from the Biogenesis of America clinic that implicated Rodriguez, among others, in a major doping scheme. After a months-long investigation, MLB suspended the star athlete for a whopping 211 games, citing his use of performance-enhancing drugs and subsequent attempts to obstruct justice.

Alex VS ARod debuts Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 9 p.m. ET. Episodes will drop weekly through November 20.

3

Materialists

Dakota Johnson, of the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us), and Deadpool & Wolverine’s Chris Evans, star in Materialists, a sweet little rom-com from director Celine Song, of Past Lives, which, coincidentally, is also being added to the HBO Max library this month.

The film follows Lucy Mason (Johnson), a failed actress-turned-matchmaker living and working in New York City. As an “eternal bachelorette,” she’s determined either to die alone or to marry a rich person. Despite her professional success, she’s growing frustrated with the increasingly unrealistic standards of her clients. That frustration lasts about five seconds, until she finds herself at a crossroads, torn between her financially unstable ex-boyfriend (Evans) and the affluent bachelor who seems like Mr. Right (Pascal). As she navigates these existential questions surrounding her line of work, she’ll have to figure out which type of romantic partner is best for her.

Materialists makes its streaming premiere on Friday, November 7, 2025.

4

Eddington

In Eddington, everyone is living in a powder keg, giving off sparks, and they really need you tonight.

Taking place during the COVID-19 pandemic, Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal star as Sheriff Joe Cross and Mayor Ted Garcia, respectively. The two come to a heated political standoff during a tense situation in their small New Mexico town, igniting a conflict that pits neighbor against neighbor in May 2020.

Visionary filmmaker Ari Aster (Beau Is Afraid, Hereditary), whose films with monster twists keep us coming back for more, wrote and directed the contemporary Western thriller that looks to be an insane character study with heavy political commentary and undertones. In addition to Phoenix and Pascal, the film’s cast also includes Academy Award winner Emma Stone and Austin Butler.

Eddington debuts exclusively on HBO Max on Friday, November 14, 2025.

5

One to One: John & Yoko

Set in 1972 New York, One to One: John & Yoko is a rare and expansive exploration of the iconic couple’s world amid a turbulent time of explosive creativity and political activism in their lives.

The HBO Original Documentary film offers a revealing inside look into their life in Greenwich Village with never-before-seen material and newly restored footage of the duo’s only full-length concert. The bow on this present, though, is the music remixed and produced by John and Yoko’s son, Sean Ono Lennon, who also served as executive producer of this film.

Expect a ground-breaking revelation that, per the synopsis, is sure to challenge any pre-existing notions of the legendary couple.

One to One: John & Yoko premieres Friday, November 14, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET.

6

The Seduction

HBO Max is releasing its first spicy French-language drama series mid-November, and, per the ominous voiceover in the trailer, we’re going deep into the trenches of the “delicious hell that is high society.” Yummy.

Set in a world where women had very little time for themselves, The Seduction is a loose reworking of Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’s steamy 18th-century novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses. The show tells the provocative, daring story of Marquise de Merteuil (Anamaria Vartolomei), who embarks on an intrepid journey to become Paris’s leading courtesan—or mistress—after libertine Vicomte de Valmont (Vincent Lacoste) betrays her.

Expect a provocative exploration of the price of emotional and sexual freedom in a time when both were taboo for women. Sometimes, to become the hero of your own story, you must become the villain in others’.

The Seduction debuts on Friday, November 14, 2025. New episodes will debut weekly through December 19.

7

Thoughts & Prayers

This upcoming title is still so new that we’ve yet to see a trailer or any images for it, but we think it’s worthy of inclusion on this list. Thoughts & Prayers is an unsettling HBO Original Documentary that tackles a touchy subject: gun violence in American schools.

As this type of violence becomes more normalized among adults and kids, a $3 billion industry of demos, drills, and bulletproof gear has transformed survival into routine. Equally absurd as it is uncomfortably real, the film exposes the multi-billion-dollar active shooter preparedness industry while tracing the effects of its training rituals not just on students but also on teachers. It also points out the unintended consequences of these preparations, thereby raising some very important questions: Are we rehearsing for violence or trying to end it?

Thoughts & Prayers debuts November 18, 2025, at 9 p.m. ET.

In addition to November’s new series, documentaries, and film debuts and premieres, the streamer is also including a new slew of titles in its library, so be sure to check those out as well. While October on HBO Max saw its own brand of exciting releases, November’s list is here to help ease you into the impending holiday season, with a little spice on top.
