Kristi Noem was left stunned after seeing a photo of a luxurious room on a plane allegedly purchased by the Department of Homeland Security.

DHS chief Kristi Noem was left stunned during an intense grilling session when she was shown a photo of a luxury room on a plane the Department of Homeland Security reportedly purchased.

The awkward moment came when Noem sat before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday to discuss her role leading DHS. “Could you explain that?” Sheldon Whitehouse, a Rhode Island Democrat, asked Noem as the image was held up by a staffer.

“I’m looking at a picture of an interior. It looks like a bedroom,” Noem said. “From a plane?” Whitehouse probed, feeling her pause. This comes after Noem’s shocking real face before plastic surgery was exposed in a throwback photo.

Noem responded to the question with a “Yes, sir” before Whitehouse continued: “Aren’t you familiar with this? These photos are not accurate.”

“If you’re referring to the aircraft that the Department of Homeland Security has purchased and is currently purchasing, we use them for long-range command and control aircraft,” Noem tried to explain. According to Noem, the plane is “dictated by Congressional law for the Department of Homeland Security to have an aircraft.”

“So you didn’t use a luxury jet with a room inside?” Whitehouse further questioned. “We used a 737. I’ve been there once, but it’s used by other administration officials, and it’s used for department command and control flights,” Noem countered.

“The department found that by purchasing our planes, we would save taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars,” she reiterated. Whitehouse was not satisfied with the response.

“Is there a room inside?” Whitehouse insisted. Of course, Noem responded by saying “we spent $1.42 billion on ICE deportation flights last year.”

“Is there a room inside?” Whitehouse pushed. “I believe it’s being renovated and there are no rooms inside,” Noem replied.

Whitehouse seethed: “So it’s being renovated. What kind of deportee warrants being flown out of the country on a luxury plane, with room and accommodation like this?” Noem apparently dodged the question by commenting that the planes “are being purchased and will be used for business air travel and deportations.”

“If you remember, in the past we have used… planes of this size in this configuration, for deportations,” Noem added. Once again, Whitehouse seemed unhappy with the response.

“By that configuration, you mean I haven’t seen the inside of the accommodations like that,” he remarked sarcastically. This comes as several Trump officials have expressed their displeasure with Noem’s luxury purchase.

“This is the worst deal in the world to buy an airplane,” an anonymous senior administration official told Axios. Another source told the publication that OMB Director Russell Vought, whose office is responsible for approving such spending, had expressed concerns about the plane.

DHS said it was only leasing the planes, but a spokesperson said it would be cheaper to buy them. “This new aircraft will serve two missions: both as ICE deportation flights and for cabinet-level travel,” the DHS spokesperson told NBC.

“This plane flies 40% cheaper than military planes fly for ICE deportation flights, saving American taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars,” they added. “This is part of Secretary Noem’s broader efforts to combat inefficiencies and save taxpayer dollars.”

This comes after Noem was brutally criticized for a major makeup mistake amid a surgical controversy.
