Hypocrisy, Thy Name Is Hakeem (and Chuck) – RedState

Thursday February 5, 2026

Hello and welcome to RedState’s “Morning Minute” – a quick look at the stories trending right now and a preview of what the day might bring. Consider this your one-stop shop for information to start your day.

TOP O’LE MORNING’

Red Hot at RedState

Chief Justice Roberts Finally Moves to Secure Supreme Court Proceedings; Leaky media hit hardest

Much like what’s happening at the Pentagon, the SCOTUS is trying to be more discreet and say less, while ensuring that the job actually gets done.

Why are Democrats trying to protect illegal immigrants at polling stations? Republican senator demands answers

Why would Democrats adamantly oppose immigration enforcement at polling places and/or wherever election results are tabulated? Why would illegal immigrants walk within 40 feet of a polling station? As you can imagine, these are rhetorical questions.

Disturbing allegations against Roy Cooper linked to Zarutska affair rock North Carolina Senate race

Although his team ultimately issued a lukewarm tweet condemning what happened, the lion’s share was devoted to attacking his critics for highlighting Cooper’s soft record on crime, which Republican Senate candidate Michael Whatley has hammered Cooper on since the killing.

Trend in town hall media

Indiana Anti-Ice Protester Arrested After Showing Proper Way To Get Shot At Protest

How on earth could these people claim just over five years ago that having guns pointed in a safe direction was an act of intimidation, and now turn a blind eye to one of their own literally threatening people with a gun?

A Chinese biolab in Vegas was attached to Airbnb, several tenants were sick

Perhaps my imagination is too limited, but I can’t find an innocent explanation for the pattern we see here. Biolabs filled with dangerous pathogens, Airbnbs next to military bases, Chinese nationals smuggling biological agents into the country…this certainly sounds like a trend and a very big threat to the nation’s security.

Tom Homan removes 700 agents from Minnesota. Here’s why it’s bad news for Democrats.

In other words, the Trump administration persuaded Walz and Frey to allow local law enforcement to assist ICE agents, allowing them to do their jobs more easily and safely.

We know why Democrats are freaking out about this election integrity story

They know what awaits them: the 2030 census could end the Democrats’ announced advantage in the electoral college. The blue wall will become irrelevant as a new red wall may emerge in Georgia, North Carolina and Arizona. This development, along with new laws aimed at ensuring voter integrity, would certainly bring Democrats to their knees in the election.

WHAT’S ON THE POSTER?

  • Senate Intelligence (Select) – Closed business meeting to consider certain intelligence matters

Wednesday’s hearings were marked by some spicy moments, particularly during the House Financial Services Committee hearing, where Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was downright savage toward some Democrats during his testimony.

What’s new at the White House

President Trump’s Thursday starts bright and early with the National Prayer Breakfast. Later in the morning he will receive his intelligence briefing. At 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time, he will make an announcement from the South Court Auditorium.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is hosting a press conference at 2 p.m. Eastern.

Vice President JD Vance and his family have landed in Milan, Italy, to attend the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Administrator. Environmental Protection Agency – Lee Zeldin — Zeldin is following up on President Trump’s charge to help eliminate red tape hampering rebuilding efforts in Southern California following last year’s devastating wildfires.

Plenary press…

Some court decisions from Wednesday:

  • ❌ United States v. Aljorna (officer assaulting/resisting arrest) — Judge Paul Magnuson (Minnesota) GRANTS defendants’ motion to enjoin removal of witnesses (including defendants).
  • United States v. Nago (voter rolls) — Judge Leslie Kobayashi (Hawaii) DENIES plaintiffs’ motion to stay the case pending (anticipated) appeals in similar cases in California and Oregon.

Then, too, the Supreme Court stepped in (sort of) by refusing to grant the California Republican Party’s request to stay a lower court’s ruling upholding the latest redistricting shenanigans. And we saw President Trump’s would-be assassin convicted in Florida.

UPCOMING ATTRACTIONS

The Winter Games opening ceremony will take place Friday, although curling and other events are already underway.

And the United States and Iran are expected to hold talks Friday in Oman.

MORNING REFLECTION

Thus, the Democrats unveiled their list of “demands” in favor of DHS reforms. Our friend Kurt Schlichter has a great explanation here on why the insistence on court warrants is horse hockey:

And why exactly would there be concerns about immigration enforcement operations in and around polling stations, since we are assured that illegal aliens do not participate in our elections?

Plus, as Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13) notes, it’s pretty surprising that Democratic leaders are asking immigration enforcement officers to self-identify — but not voters.

Things that make you say “Hmmm…” 🤔

LIGHTER RATE

Unbearable kindness.
