I Tried What US Athletes Will Be Sleeping on at Milano Cortina

This mattress topper offers some cushion with a quilted surface, but not as much as the mattress topper. This is more of a luxury mattress protector than anything else. But for competitive athletes who find their mattress comfortable but want extra cushioning, they could easily forgo the mattress topper and use the mattress topper instead. Alternatively, you can throw it on top of the mattress topper, but that’s a bit too much cushion for me and may stretch the elastic sides, depending on the height of your mattress.
A soft pillow
Hotel pillows always seem too soft or too firm. The Saatva latex pillows included in this set are meant to be a good compromise. I found the standard loft option to be very mushy, which isn’t a bad thing, but you need to know yourself as a sleeper to decide if it’s best for you. If you prefer a higher loft because you sleep on your side, have broader shoulders, or want to preserve cervical alignment, a higher loft option is available (approximately 6 to 7 inches). As for the standard loft (4-5 inches), I’m a combination sleeper who loves a pillow that is flatter, more malleable, and can conform to me whether I sleep on my side, stomach, or back.
The soft, “pasty” feel comes from the shredded latex core, surrounded by an organic cotton cover and microdenier fibers that mimic feathers. Latex is a hypoallergenic, bouncy material that helps relieve pressure and is heat resistant. All of these qualities were present with these pillows, but if you’re a fan of really firm pillows, you’re not going to have a good time with these pillows.
Final score
In total, the Winter Sleep Accessories bundle costs $940 for the queen-size items, including two pillows, the mattress topper, the mattress topper, and the sheet set. You’ll need to purchase all of the items in the pack individually, but I actually prefer this approach. Sleep is deeply personal and, frankly, it’s an investment. The mattress topper works well if you need more support from your bed but aren’t ready to completely replace it. Pillows wear out faster than you think, and I thought the latex ones in the package were good for stomach sleepers and combination sleepers if they don’t mind the softness. I’m always partial to a mattress protector, but I think you can skip the mattress topper in this case unless you’re already a fan. Finally, the sheets are sturdy and are available with the best-selling alternative bundle (pillow, sheets, mattress topper) if that suits you more.
I’ll tune in soon to watch the Games here and tell you more about what Saatva is doing in preparation for LA28. In the meantime, go Team USA, and to all of us, near and far, to sleep better.
