Petition asks FDA to name companies linked to outbreaks

Published:

A nonprofit group committed to increasing food safety has filed a petition asking the FDA to reverse its practice of not disclosing the names of companies whose foods are linked to outbreaks.

STOP Foodborne Illness has filed a petition challenging the Food and Drug Administration’s use of a loophole called “confidential commercial information” or CCI. Taking advantage of this loophole, the FDA routinely withholds the names of companies involved in foodborne illness outbreaks that do not involve recalls.
