Katie Holmes Swapped Ballet Slippers for Spring’s Hottest Flat
We’re not yet entirely sold on the spring 2026 “preppy trend,” despite the nagging PR emails cluttering our inboxes. That said, Katie Holmes makes a compelling case for the classic jester and the court as a modern take on the old argyle sweater routine. Rather than the usual crossover pattern, the Holmes sweater features massive diamonds in bright colors for a harlequin look that’s honestly not a breath of fresh air. It’s fun, different and not too complicated, that’s what it is.
The actor was spotted in the look while grabbing her coffee on a walk in Los Angeles, and she paired the comfy top with pants, flats (the $920 leather “Stella Slipper” from The Row) and a simple handbag, all in black, along with tortoiseshell sunglasses. Her specific sweater comes from the United Kingdom. Boden brand: the “Anastasia Cashmere Sweater” in the “Multi Harlequin Jumper” colorway ($220). If you’re as in love with these colors as we are, Boden also offers a “Multi Harlequin” double-breasted trench coat ($420), although there’s something about pure cashmere that really makes the pattern sing.

Our question: did she get that coffee sleeve because it matched her sweater? You can find pink coffee sleeves in many places around Los Angeles, but given that Katie is something of a pro at this game of street-style spon-con, we wouldn’t let her and her team slip the creative direction of even her to-go cup. Accessories.

Another key to not overdoing the preppy look: she’s so relaxed. Minimal makeup, loose hair, basic accessories. If she had a headband, ponytail, and loafers, it would look like a costume. But letting the collar of her white t-shirt show at the top tells us that this outfit was designed with both style and comfort in mind, not with a slavish devotion to trends. It’s just a touch of harlequin, which reminds us…isn’t there a new The Bridgerton Chronicles the season is coming soon?
