Airport spokesperson Doug Yakel insisted that the violent arrest had nothing to do with Trump’s directive.
“We understand that federal agents were transporting two people on an outbound flight when this incident occurred,” he wrote in an email, possibly including the little girl. “We believe this is an isolated incident and have no reason to suspect wider enforcement action at SFO… We were not involved in or warned in advance of this incident. Airport operations have continued without interruption and there has been no impact on flights or passenger processing.”
“I flew to San Francisco at 10 p.m. last night and we were stuck on the tarmac for 30 minutes because of a ‘security’ issue. I can’t imagine it was anything other than that,” said Utah State Senator Nate Blouin. wrote on
Trump on Monday encouraged ICE agents to continue arresting people deployed at airports. “They are now able to arrest illegal immigrants as soon as they arrive in the country,” Trump said. said. “It’s very fertile territory.”
Even though this is an isolated event that has nothing to do with Trump’s ICE directive, it makes the fear attached to it a reality.
