Leander, Texas – A Texas School Bus carrying more than 40 students rolled on Wednesday after being discouraged from a rural road on the first day of lessons, injuring several students, the authorities announced.

At least one person has potentially fatal injuries, while two others have “potentially deadly injuries,” said deputy chief Kevin Parker, with the emergency medical services of the county of Austin-Travis, at a press conference.

The bus was traveling on a two -lane rural section when it left the right side “for an unknown reason” and was overthrown, said the sergeant of the Ministry of Public Security. Billy Ray.

He later declared in a statement on Wednesday evening that he was raining when the accident occurred and “it is not clear if the weather had a factor”. The accident is the subject of an investigation.

Video sequences of the scene showed the yellow school bus lying next to the road with its damaged roof and several broken windows.

School and emergency officials said the bus had 42 children and that the driver and 15 students had been transported to hospitals. The officials did not say if the person with potentially deadly injuries was a student or the driver.

The bus to Leander independent School District mainly transported primary school students, said superintendent Bruce Gearing. The accident occurred shortly after the school let escape, and no student had yet been filed.

The bus is a 2024 model and is equipped with safety belts mandated by the state that children must carry, said Gearing.

“We want each of these students and their families to know that our prayers are with them, our thoughts are with them and we will do everything we can in our power to support them,” he said.
