Iceberg right ahead! Amazing images show skyscraper-sized frozen blocks drifting towards houses on Greenland’s shores
Incredible images show a huge iceberg dangerously deriving near the shore of Greenland.
The imposing structure got closer to a port in Innaarsuit, where local authorities have issued warnings to the public.
It is now near the Royal Greenland Fish Factory and the local catering store, where people are invited to pay attention during the visit.
The municipality of Avannaata said: “Emergency services encourage families not to go in groups to the store, while asking people with walking difficulties to be very careful when walking towards the store.
“The emergency services also want you to be careful when you sail both towards and from the colony.
“Emergency services are aware of the iceberg and are prepared if they separate.”
Dennis Lehtonen, who works locally, said that the iceberg originally came to the village about a week ago, but seemed to move on.
He said: “This Monday, however, the iceberg would return to Innarsuit and since then it has been (almost) in the same place since then.

“For this reason, the Avannaata Kommunia (municipality of northern Greenland) issued the official warning of the iceberg and we temporarily close the local fish factory where I work as well as the small shop.”
He added: “I questioned the inhabitants about their feelings for the iceberg. Some say they are worried, but there are many people who are in a way or excited (like me).
He occurs just a few weeks after a fisherman spotted a black iceberg off the coast of Canada.
Hallur Antoniussen, originally from the Faroe Islands, was aboard a fishing trawler when he spotted the strange view.
“I saw icebergs that are rolled, which they say rolled in the beach with a few rocks,” he told CBC Radio.
“This one here is completely different. It is not only that it is all black. It is almost … in the shape of a diamond.
Mr. Antoniussen, 64, said it was difficult to estimate the size of the iceberg because he was about six kilometers away when he took a photo.
However, he thinks it was at least three times the size of an ordinary bungalow.

The icebergs traditionally appear white because they are filled with tiny pockets of trapped air which disperse all the wavele lengths of light.
An explanation of the rare black iceberg is that it has become mixed with a lot of debris thousands of years ago when it was part of a larger glacier.
While the glaciers move to the ocean, they creak along the ground, stirring debris that mix with the ice.
