IDF soldier killed, eight wounded in fighting across northern Gaza
Sgt. Michalovich was killed, and eight were wounded in a series of incidents in the Shujaiya neighborhood in eastern Gaza City that began at around 9:00 a.m., according to Army Radio.
The IDF announced the death of Sergeant (Sgt.) Yaniv Michalovitch in Gaza City on Wednesday.
Michalovitch, 19, from Rehovot, served in the 98th Division, in the Armored Corps 82nd Battalion, in the ‘Sa’ar Magolan’ 7th Brigade.
Sgt. Michalovich was killed, and eight were wounded in a series of incidents in the Shujaiya neighborhood in eastern Gaza City that began at around 9:00 a.m., according to Army Radio.
In the first incident, terrorists launched two RPG rockets at a building in which an Egoz unit was stationed. As a result of the strike, one soldier was moderately wounded and another was lightly wounded.
Approximately 20 minutes later, another anti-tank missile was fired at the tank carrying the 7th Brigade. The tank was operating with the goal of locating the terrorists from the first incident. As a result of the missile strike on the tank, Sgt. Michalovitch was killed, and the other soldiers in the tank were wounded – two seriously and one moderately.

Immediately following the two incidents, the IAF carried out several airstrikes to facilitate the evacuation of the wounded to a hospital and to attempt to kill the terrorists. The IDF is investigating whether the same terrorist cell that fired the two anti-tank missiles was struck.
After the first two incidents, a Hamas sniper fired from a mosque at the Egoz troops, and one soldier was seriously wounded.
Following this, a D-9 engineering vehicle hit an explosive device, wounding two soldiers, one moderately and one lightly.
The wounded soldiers were all evacuated to a hospital to receive medical treatment, and their families have been notified.
IDF announces the deaths of eight soldiers in the past week
The IDF announced the death of Sgt. Yisrael Natan Rosenfeld, who served in the IDF’s 601st Combat Engineering Battalion under the 401st Brigade, on Sunday.
He was killed after being hit by an anti-tank missile in Jabalya. The incident occurred while Rosenfeld and his battalion were investigating a report of there being an explosive device in a building.
Last Wednesday, the military announced the death of seven soldiers from the IDF’s Combat Engineering Corps in an incident where a Hamas terrorist attached an improvised explosive device to a Puma-style troop transport vehicle in Khan Yunis.
Michalovitch marks the ninth soldier killed in Gaza within the past week.
This is a developing story.
