If you can only watch 5 TV shows in January, stream these

New year, new television. If you’re like me, you spent the last two weeks of 2025 catching up on shows you either missed or never watched entirely. For me, that show was Tell Me Lies, an addictive drama on Hulu about a messy college relationship full of deception and betrayal.
Now that I’ve caught up, and with it being 2026, it’s time to add more shows to the roster. Luckily for me, Tell Me Lies is one of several TV shows returning this January. If you’re looking for some more streaming options on HBO Max, Hulu, and Apple TV, here’s what’s coming in January.
The Pitt season 2
Put on your latex gloves and return to Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center’s emergency room for another anxiety-inducing day in The Pitt. 10 months after the events of the season 1 finale, The Pitt season 2 picks up with a shift on July 4. What could go wrong? For Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle), it will be his last day before embarking on a three-month sabbatical. Nothing about this day will be easy for Dr. Robby, as he balances the return of Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball) and the arrival of his replacement, Dr. Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi).
With old-school storytelling, a strong ensemble, and a weekly release schedule, The Pitt season 1 became an overwhelming success on its way to five Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series and acting wins for Wyle and Katherine LaNasa. Season 2 has already garnered critical acclaim and boasts a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The Pitt season 2 premieres on January 8 on HBO Max.

Tell Me Lies season 3
If you like watching toxic relationships on steroids, may I interest you in an entertaining Hulu show, Tell Me Lies? Based on Carola Lovering’s 2018 novel, Tell Me Lies explores the unhealthy love affair between Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White). The series begins when Lucy, a first-year student, meets Stephen, a junior, at the fictional Baird College.
Tell Me Lies bounces back and forth between the couple’s college days and a wedding between classmates eight years later. Lucy, Stephen, and their friends are sexually charged liars who repeatedly end up in troubling situations—affairs, scandals, and murders. The plot twists are borderline ridiculous, and the cliffhangers are beyond excessive, but the drama makes for a ridiculously entertaining watch.
Tell Me Lies season 3 premieres on January 13 on Hulu.

Shrinking season 3
Shrinking is Apple TV’s version of a warm blanket. Jason Segel stars as Jimmy Laird, a therapist struggling to cope with the death of his wife. With nothing to lose, Jimmy throws ethical practices out the window and gets brutally honest with his patients. Much to his surprise, Jimmy’s tactics work, inspiring him to implement them with the people he loves. In season 3, Jimmy faces new challenges, including his daughter (Lukita Maxwell) on the brink of college, a potential love interest, and Paul’s (Harrison Ford) battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Segel co-created Shrinking with Brett Goldstein and Bill Lawrence, the latter of whom developed Ted Lasso and Scrubs. Like many of Lawrence’s shows, Shrinking features an eclectic cast of charming personalities, including Segel, Ford, Maxwell, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Christa Miller, and Ted McGinley. With lighthearted humor and touching lessons, Shrinking is the perfect hangout show, one full of laughs, tears, and smiles.
Shrinking season 3 premieres on January 28 on Apple TV.

Industry season 4
Industry is the show you want to party with, but never have to clean up the mess. It’s Euphoria meets Mad Men, as Konrad Kay and Mickey Down’s thriller lives in the high-stakes world of London’s financial sector. You’ll lose track of how much drugs, sex, and alcohol are baked into the show’s DNA. After three seasons, Industry exits the walls of Pierpoint and evolves into a globetrotting adventure.
At the center of Industry season 4 are Pierpoint grads Harper Stern (Myha’la) and Yasmin Kara-Hanan (Marisa Abela), who have established careers for themselves. These frenemies are on a collision course after the arrival of Whitney Halberstram (Max Minghella), who HBO describes as an “enigmatic executive.” Industry never lets its foot off the gas, and the results become one of television’s best thrill rides.
Industry season 4 premieres January 11 on HBO and HBO Max.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1
While he might have no interest in finishing The Winds of Winter, George R.R. Martin continues to develop more Game of Thrones TV shows for HBO. His latest offering is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg series. Set 100 years before the events of Game of Thrones, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms chronicles the unexpected pairing between a knight, Sir Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey), and his squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). Think of Dunk and the Egg as Martin’s version of The Odd Couple.
Martin’s previous shows—Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon—were big-budget blockbusters with complex set pieces thanks to the presence of dragons. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a sharp left turn in size and scope. This new show presents a smaller, grounded story about everyday people. Perhaps that’s exactly what the Game of Thrones universe needs to reach new audiences.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 premieres January 18 on HBO and HBO Max.

These five shows will certainly shoot to the top of the streaming charts this month. Between the return of The Pitt and the debut of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, HBO Max is loaded with options this month. However, keep an eye out for other shows that might slip through the cracks.
