If Your Facebook Group Has Been Banned, It’s Probably a Bug

Facebook users complain that their groups are inexplicably struck by the ban hammer, whatever them. Through Reddit and X, amateur ornithologists, Pokémon coaches and interior designers complain that their groups are deleted, without any regard that they are displayed or their size. In some cases, such as the above -mentioned interior design group, these now deleted pages had millions of members before being closed.

The reasons taken for prohibitions vary between groups, accusations that they have welcomed the content “linked to terrorism” to allegations of “nudity and adult sexual content”. Listen, I know that a Titmouse is a funny name for a bird, but it goes a bit far.

According to the strange chances that you thought that the memes of pets or the parental groups of Facebook had indeed a sinister secret, I will unsubscribe from this notion at the moment: it is a bug. An official cause has not yet been found (although users on social networks blame AI moderation), but Meta spokesperson Andy Stone told Techcrunch that the company was aware of the problem and was repairing.

This news is following recent complaints of mass mass concerning “Shadowbanning” on Instagram, where the head of the Adam Mosseri site has tried to underline the company’s commitment to transparency in its moderation process. Anyway, it is not clear at this stage when a fix could happen for the affected Facebook groups, and if it is possible to restore them to their previous status.

What do you think so far?

In the meantime, the administrators act. A collective appeal is already underway, and several petitions change.org collect thousands of signatures. Although not being able to discuss with users with similar views or seeing funny images may well be a small interruption for some, for business owners, losing access to their audience can have a significant impact on their livelihood.

I contacted Meta for more clarification, but I have not yet heard.
