A video of fishing vessels that sailed in northern China was falsely shared in articles stating that it shows a flotilla bearing humanitarian aid and pro-Palestinian activists in Gaza. An analysis revealed that the images do not correspond to the images of the global Sumud flotilla.

“Global Sumud Flotilla is not a terrorist movement. It is a humanitarian mission!” Read part of the legend of a Facebook video shared on September 10, 2025.

The video, which has been seen more than 3,300 times, shows clips of what seems to be hundreds of boats heading towards the sea.

The legend adds that the flotilla has no weapons, only food and help.

It was shared after the flotilla organizers bound for Gaza with a help and pro-Palestinian activists said that one of their boats had been struck during an alleged drone attack off the Tunisian coast on September 9, the second in 24 hours (archived link).

The Tunisia’s Interior Ministry said it was investigating the attack on “premeditated attack”.

The video has also been shared hundreds of times in similar publications on Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok.

Flotilla hopes to help relieve the humanitarian crisis in a spiral in Gaza while the War of Israel against the Palestinian militant group Hamas clings (archived link).

The war broke out in October 2023, triggered by an attack on Hamas against Israel which led to the death of 1,219 people, most of them civilians, according to an AFP count based on Israeli personalities.

Israel’s reprisal offensive killed at least 64,871 Palestinians, also mainly civilians, according to figures from the Ministry of Health in Gaza managed by Hamas that the United Nations consider reliable.

In August, following the conflict, the UN officially declared famine in and around Gaza City, which houses around a million people. Israel, however, denies the existence of famine in coastal territory.

An inverse image search using key images from falsely shared video found that the same clips were previously published on September 1 by the Tabloid of Global Times on Bilibili (archived link).

“On September 1 at noon, the summer fishing ban in Bohai and the Yellow sea ended, the fishing boats along the coast of the Shandong province began to browse at the same time”, reads the simplified Chinese text of the video.

Other inverted image research has led to similar clips published by the Affiliate Facebook account of the Chinese state diffuser CGTN, China Plus Culture, in an article of September 3 on the end of the four -month summer fishing ban (archived link).

“More than 30,000 fishing ships started from the ports along the yellow sea and the Bohai Sea, north of 35 degrees latitude, while the four -month summer fishing ban has officially ended at noon on September 1, marking the start of a new season for thousands of coastal communities.” The message can be read

A more in -depth inspection of the clips shows that the boats fly solid red flags resembling the national flag of China – not the black, white and green Palestinian flag.

Photos of the Global Flotilla Sumud taken by AFP when it was moored in Tunisia shows that the boats are decorated with Palestinian flags, unlike the ships seen in the falsely shared video.
