Amazon is not the Most of us opt for outdoor gear first, but the retail giant has some good brands, and there are currently deals going on during Prime Big Deal Days. However, most of the good deals on outdoor gear right now can be found in Backcountry and Public Lands, both of which are on sale. We combed through the offers and selected the best ones based on all our tests. We only recommend gear that we actually like and use ourselves.

This is a great deal on our favorite 3-person backpacking tent, although we also like the two-person model, which is on sale here. Nemo’s Dagger Osmo is roomy for its weight, with steep side walls and generous living space. I found that the nylon-polyester blend (the Osmo fabric that gives the tent its name) actually stretches less and repels water more than nylon alone, without fogging up as much as pure silpoly. The result is a sturdy tent that I used without problem in the snow, despite a three-season technical classification.

The Big Agnes Copper Spur Series is our top pick for ultralight freestanding tents. This is a high-quality, well-designed tent that is lightweight, easy to set up, and roomy enough to be livable in the backcountry. The “canopy” design (with poles or hiking poles) is a nice plus, and the mixture of 15D nylon and 20D ripstop, which seems fragile, has held up well over time. These are on sale because Big Agnes recently revamped the Copper Spur; These are last year’s models (but they’re still awesome!). The 3-person model and the 4-person model are also on sale.

This is my favorite backpacking tent when my kids are with me. It’s light enough that I could carry it myself (about 4 pounds for the three-person model) and roomy enough (40 square feet) that I could take three kids with me (or at least I could; unfortunately, it turns out that young children are still growing). The semi-freestanding design saves weight, but it means you’ll have to stake out your footing, and the fabrics are lightweight (read: less durable) than Nemo Dagger tents. But the model I own has held up well to several years of use.

This is the best deal I’ve ever seen on MSR’s Groundhog holdings. This is the best tent upgrade you can get for $20. They are super strong. I’ve never had it bent or removed, and for strength, they’re pretty lightweight. I carry a mix of stakes when I hike, including four, carbon fiber stakes and shepherd’s hooks. This way, no matter the terrain, I have something that will work.

The “mummy” design of mummy bags aims to optimize warmth and not comfort. But let’s face it: Most of us don’t sleep in situations where our survival is at stake. Therm-a-Rest has solved this problem with what it calls WARM fit, which means “with extra room for multiple” positions. Indeed, this bag is very spacious for a mummy design. I was able to raise my legs when sleeping on my side and lie down much more than with most bags. If you toss and turn during the night and don’t want a comforter, this would be my first choice.

The Zenbivy bed (9/10, WIRED recommends) is hands down the most comfortable backcountry sleeping experience I’ve ever had – it doesn’t get more comfortable than this. The Zenbivy is not just a sleeping bag. This is a sheet, hood and duvet style bag that can be combined in different ways. This deal (and the slightly cheaper versions unfortunately) lasted all summer and frankly, I’m surprised it hasn’t sold out yet. Get one while you can.

I love my MegaMat, it’s hands down the best sleeping experience I’ve had in a campervan (I have the automatic version that fits in the back of your car). The MegaMat is roughly equivalent to the MondoKing, our favorite of the mega sleeping mats. The MondoKing takes first place because it weighs less and is smaller, but I personally like the MegaMat better because it has slightly better insulation. This offer is for the duo model, which measures 72 inches long and 41 inches wide.

Don’t know which pack is best? Check out our guides to the best day hiking packs, best backpacks for work, and best travel luggage.

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far, far away, I traveled to Southeast Asia with an early version of this Osprey pack, and lived on it for almost a year. It held up well to the abuse of overland travel – more than once I saw a bus driver tie it to the roof of a bus by bloodying it with rope, pulling its full weight down to the middle of my bag, like a cheese slicer. The Farpoint has survived, as has my interior gear, thanks in part to the thick, padded sides, which provide considerable additional cushioning.

Mystery Ranch’s Coulee backpacks are one of my favorites. The 30L is my go-to day hiking bag, and this 50L is excellent for long trips. It’s not an ultralight bag by any means (it weighs 3 pounds, 12 ounces for a stand), but it can handle heavier loads (well north of 35 pounds in my testing) with ease. You get a nice stiff frame sheet, a well-padded curved hipbelt, cushy shoulder straps and good back padding. It has also proven to be very durable over the years.

The Wingman is the best chest pocket add-on I have tested. It fits my Coulee 30 perfectly and gives me a place to store my binoculars, snacks, and other odds and ends I want to have close at hand. The water bottle holder can even hold bear spray if you’re in grizzly bear country. This works great with the Mystery Ranch packs, but the clips should work with just about any pack that has a small strap on the shoulder straps.

Camping offers

Coleman 1900 Camp Stove

This is one of the best prices I have seen on this upgraded stove. Sure, the basic Coleman ($65) gets the job done, but the Cascade’s cast iron burners are much nicer and more durable. The griddle is also practical, perfect for preparing pancakes. My only complaint is that I wish there was an option to get two hotplates, as I find the grill not as useful.

Although I like the MSR PocketRocket Deluxe better, this one is still a great IsoPro backpacking stove. It’s lightweight (2.6 ounces), but has arms wide enough to support just about any one- or two-person potty. It’s simple to use, even with gloves, and it’s effective: At sea level (OK, technically 947 feet), it boiled 1 liter of water in 3 minutes and 47 seconds. You can even simmer it, although the flame radius is small, so fancier cooking isn’t easy.

Perhaps best known for unwittingly participating in a sophisticated email scam, the Yeti Hopper M20 is also an excellent soft-sided cooler. You just haven’t earned any. You’re going to have to buy it, and what better time than now, when it’s on sale? This deal is only for a few colors, but as long as you get them right, it’s worth it.

Patagonia Jacket

Patagonia’s Nano Puff series has been a hit since its launch years ago. If you want a technical midlayer that you can also wear around town, this is the jacket for you. The padding is synthetic, but it’s incredibly warm and manages to fill out almost like a down jacket.

The Cirrus Flex is a synthetic jacket with PrimaLoft Silver Luxe synthetic insulation. This is the slightly warmer version of the Cirrus Flex, a pick in our guide to the best down jackets, although it lacks the stretch panels of the Flex. Size and color options are limited at this price, but if your size is available, it’s a great deal on a good jacket.

WIRED editor Adrienne calls it the best coverage. She spreads it in front of her tent so that dust and twigs don’t get inside. It’s also ideal for picnics. It’s washable and has a waterproof bottom, so you don’t have to worry about wet grass getting through, and it’s heavy enough that the corners won’t lift in the breeze. His lasted almost five years.

This is a great deal on the best smokeless fireplace you can buy. It’s a nice combination of looks, portability, value and utility. Measuring 19.5 inches wide and 15 inches high, it’s small and light enough (25 pounds) to throw in the truck and transported to the beach, but large enough to round up a group of half a dozen friends. This deal includes support, but if you don’t need it, you can get just the fireplace for $265.

The Breeo The fire bowl is 2 feet wide, so this fire pit is large enough to hold most pre-cut firewood laid flat rather than vertically. The Breeo base is a square of aerated stainless steel strong enough to support the weight of the pit without wobbling and inspires enough confidence that we’ve placed it on wooden decks without issue.

The Roadtrip 285 Portable is one of our top picks for portable grills. With a triple set of burners and variable controls, you can sear vegetables on one side while cooking meat more slowly on the other. There is a grease trap to catch drips while cooking, and it is removable for cleaning. You also get push-button ignition and 20,000 BTUs of propane grilling power.
