Features
The E40 is classic ball -style security cameras designed for outdoor. Inside this case is a single 4K single lens camera with a large field of vision at 122 degrees. It supports up to 5x digital zoom, allowing you to focus on details while examining the images. The E40 offers three modes for night coverage: Starlight’s night vision for low light scenes, an improved mode of projectors for complete darkness and a traditional black and white infrared mode when you prefer to keep things discreet.

The AI available to the camera can distinguish between people, pets and vehicles, reducing false alarms from passing cars or wandering. You can still minimize unwanted notifications by defining the activity zones and the schedules, so that it only alerts you when and where you wish.
For active deterrence, the E40 is equipped with an integrated mermaid and a red and flashing blue light which imitates the stroboscopes of the police. Bidirectional audio with noise reduction can also be used to warn intruders or speak with visitors. The camera system can be integrated into Amazon Alexa or Google Home, but there is currently no support for Apple Home.
The EUFY S4 network video recorder includes 2 TB of local storage (extensible to 16 TB) and an integrated AI that manages detection and follow -up without counting on the cloud.

Configuration and performance
The installation of the CAM POE E40 is simple, provided you are comfortable drawing the Ethernet cable from the camera to the NVR of Eufy. The assembly equipment included gives you flexibility in the positioning of the camera, whether you have attached it to a wall, in a future or on a post.
The EUFY NETWORK S4 video recorder comes with 2 TB of storage via a mechanical hard drive, and it can be extended to 16 TB by replacing the disc installed by the factory in its unique 3.5 inch bay. You will probably need more capacity if you choose a 24/7 recording.
The configuration of the NVR is more involved than a wireless camera installation. You will need to wire it to your router, connect the mouse included for controlling the system and connect a monitor to its HDMI port. It is then a question of choosing the locations of your camera, mounting the supports, fixing the cameras and drilling holes in your walls to supply the Ethernet cables through the eyelets provided by the weather. Once everything is connected to the NVR, the difficult part is finished; The system automatically detects the cameras and you can access the system via the monitor, the EUFY application or the EUFY web portal.
The video quality in broad daylight is excellent, with a 4K resolution offering net details and a precise color. At night, the Starlight sensor produces a clear and colorful image in low light conditions. When the scene is completely dark, the Spotlight mode gets into play to light up and capture maximum details. Infrared mode provides ample light to capture light black and white images.
EUFY AI does solid job to recognize people, vehicles and pets and personalized activity areas help reduce false alarms triggered by an unrelevant movement. Alerts arrive quickly and classification precision maintains useful rather than overwhelming notifications. If you run several cameras, as you will likely, you can choose the overall settings for the NVR AI, which will replace the parameters of the individual camera. Should you buy the Eufy Poe Cam E40?
At $ 130, the EUFY POE CAM E40 offers a lot for its price. You get a net 4K video, reliable AI detection and integrated deterrents, all without the continuous cost of a cloud subscription. Make sure to take into account the cost of the 8-channel video recorder (extensible to 16 channels) S4 ($ 400) because the camera cannot work without it.
