Invincible Season 4, Episode 4 premiered on Prime Video — and while it does something the adult animated series has never done before, fans can’t help but discuss another part of its final chapter.
Before he made his bow, I was convinced that conversations about Invincible The new Season 4 entry, titled “Hurm”, is said to be dominated by the new story it revolves around that is not present in its comic book namesake. And yet, viewers can’t stop talking about a seemingly unimportant scene in the final moments of this episode, which leaves some perplexed and irritates others.
Full spoilers immediately follow for Invincible season 4 episode 4. Go back now if you haven’t watched it.

Why “Hurm” innovates for Invincible
As I mentioned, the The latest Amazon TV Original episode is the first to include narrative material that is not adapted from Invinciblethe literary counterpart of .
Indeed, the plot — which follows the end credits scene of InvincibleThe season 3 finale of – focuses on Damien Darkblood, aka the demonic detective who was banished from Earth by Cecil Stedman, head of the Global Defense Agency (GDA), in episode 4 of season 1. In the comics, this is where Darkblood’s story ends – so why was he not only brought back, but also installed as a co-lead in the fourth chapter of this season?
Robert Kirkman, co-creator of the graphic novels and its television adaptation, always wanted this story, which sees the eponymous hero literally dragged into hell to help Darkblood defeat the invincible Volcanikka, to be part of InvincibleThe series of 144 issues.
Speaking to Variety last March, Kirkman said: “We always wanted to find a way to bring Damian Darkblood back into the show, and then – my God, do I want to spoil this? There’s a storyline from the comics that I never got around to doing.
“Every superhero story has a chapter where they go to hell and fight the devil. This happens in DC and Marvel comics. It’s a big deal. I’ve never had the opportunity to do something like that in Invincible. I kept getting hassled and there was never a good time. So it’s entirely possible that we’ll do something like that on the show.”
Clearly, this Darkblood-centric side story is something that has been on Kirkman’s mind for a long time. The Reddit post above, which includes a screenshot of Kirkman responding to a fan about wanting to reintroduce Darkblood into the comics but not having the space to do so, confirms this. With “Hurm,” Kirkman finally realizes his vision for this hell-based scenario.
Was it worth the wait? From the online reactions I’ve seen so far, fans are decidedly mixed on the new material contained in the Prime Video show. Indeed, discussions on r/Invincible and the ResetEra forums are full of fan opinions ranging from those who were pleasantly surprised by what was on offer to those who were completely disappointed.
Of course, these opinions are just a snapshot of what the show’s global audience thought of “Hurm.” At the time of publishing, it’s only been eight hours since the start of Episode 4 of Season 4, so I suspect the pendulum of opinion will swing more in one direction rather than the other in the hours, days, and weeks to come.
Where is your original voice actor, William?

If there is one thing that InvincibleThe fanbase may agree, however, that they do not like who voices William Clockwell now.
In seasons 1-3, Andrew Rannells was the actor behind Mark Grayson/Invincible’s gay best friend and Samantha Eve Wilkins/Atom-Eve. However, after William’s first appearance in the fourth episode of this season, he seems very different.
The reason? Brandon Scott Jones has replaced Rannells – and viewers are already *ahem* expressing their displeasure with the change.
what happened to the old one?😭 https://t.co/7VlW4Ay6OdMarch 25, 2026
Indeed, many threads on r/Invincible, including those started by No_Yogurtcloset6575, Flat_measurement2579, and ShuckU, are full of comments from fans who agree with other audience members that Jones’ portrayal is a step backwards from Rannells’. The same is true on other social networks and discussion platforms, such as X/Twitter and the ResetEra forums.
Again, at the time of publication, there is no word from Amazon, nor from Kirkman and fellow TV adaptation co-creator Simon Racioppa, as to why Rannells is no longer involved. Whatever the reason, people aren’t happy – but if Jones is now William’s permanent voice, I guess we’ll have to get used to it.
