RUSSIA has successfully tested a nuclear-capable Poseidon super torpedo, according to Putin – who boasted it was unstoppable.

It is the second aggressive nuclear test in days, after Russia revealed this week that it had also fired a new land-based missile, dubbed “Flying Chernobyl”, much to Trump’s fury.

Russia and the United States have both said Poseidon torpedoes are a new generation of retaliatory weapons that could cause radioactive tsunamis and render entire coastlines uninhabitable.

Putin told a group of soldiers wounded in the war against Ukraine that the test launch took place on Tuesday.

He said: “Yesterday another test was carried out for another potential system – the “Poseidon” unmanned underwater device, also equipped with a nuclear power plant.

“For the first time, we managed not only to launch it with a launch engine from a carrier submarine, but also to launch the nuclear power plant on which this device spent some time.”

“It’s a huge success,” he said, adding that there was “no way to intercept” a drone.

He added that the power of Poseidon was greater than that of the Russian Sarmat intercontinental missile.

The Kremlin had threatened to sink Britain with nuclear torpedoes before it had even fully tested Poseidon.

A state propagandist said last month: “The British say their task is to inflict a strategic defeat on us.

“Well, let them say it from the water.”

Russian sources touting the new weapon previously said it could shoot 185 mph underwater and penetrate depths less than 3,000 feet.

This last test was hot heels on another, when on October 21, Russia’s nuclear-capable Burevestnik was successfully launched.

Trump was furious at these warmongering antics, warning that the United States had a nuclear submarine stationed just off the coast of Russia.

He said: “They don’t play with us. We don’t play with them either.”

The Burevestnik has been dubbed “flying Chernobyl” by analysts because they say it foolishly risks releasing radioactive material across Russia.

Experts have called the weapon “particularly stupid” and an attempt to “scare” the West – rather than being a valuable addition to Russia’s inventory.

Security expert Philip Ingram MBE told The Sun that Russia could only use it with a nuclear warhead – rather than a conventional warhead – and that is a route Putin would not dare take.

He said: “If it’s powered by nuclear power on the propulsion side and you have something detonating on the other end, then you’ve just created a radiological dirty bomb.

“This is what would happen if this was used with a conventional warhead. The only practical way to use it is with a nuclear warhead.”

“There’s no point in contaminating an area just because you’re using nuclear power as a propulsion system.

“And in reality, Russian intercontinental ballistic missiles can do their job much better anyway.”
