iPhone Fold rumor: iPad-like multitasking, but no iPad apps and no Face ID

Apple’s foldable iPhone is rumored to feature an iPad-like interface that will allow users to view apps side-by-side, according to a report from BloombergIt’s Mark Gurman. Gurman also reports that the exterior display will be about the size of a small iPhone. The inner display would have a wider aspect ratio, similar to Google’s first-generation Pixel Fold, but not foldable flagships currently on the market, like the Pixel Fold 10 or Galaxy Z Fold 7.
While the update may make multitasking easier, Gurman reports that the foldable iPhone won’t run existing iPad apps. Still, Apple is reportedly trying to take advantage of the phone’s larger screen space by updating its “core” apps with a sidebar on the left side of the screen. According to Gurman, this will also give developers the ability to make iPhone versions of their eapps more iPad-like.
Instead of using Face ID, Apple’s foldable could integrate Touch ID into the device’s side button, because “the front panel is too thin to accommodate the Face ID sensor array,” Gurman reports. This means that instead of the pill-shaped housing for the front camera and Face ID, Apple would add a small hole-punch camera. Gurman previously reported that the foldable could look like two iPhone Airs stuck together.
Even without the pill-shaped notch, Gurman reports that the foldable iPhone will still include Apple’s Dynamic Island feature, which allows users to keep tabs on events in real time. The device would also have dual rear cameras and a price tag of around $2,000.
