Iran’s foreign minister reprimanded the British government for its tacit support for Operation Epic Fury in a phone call with London, he said, criticizing the “negative and biased” Britons.

The United States and Israel should stop launching strikes against Iran and ensure they will not resume, and Britain should stop cooperating with “Zionist terrorist networks” by allowing operations in the Middle East, Tehran said in London.

Reading out a purported call between Iranian Minister Abbas Araghchi and his British counterpart, Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary Yvette Cooper said the two had “exchanged views” on “the war imposed by the United States and the Zionist regime.” Iran did not want to attack its neighbors, it was claimed, but was forced to do so by America.

The London Press Association says Downing Street responded to Tehran’s statement on the conversation by emphasizing that the UK “did not take part in the initial strikes” because it has a “very clear” position on “not getting drawn into a wider war”. A spokesperson for the prime minister said: “We have authorized the United States to use our bases for a specific and limited defensive purpose in response to Iran’s continued and outrageous aggression, and we have always said that this is the best way to eliminate the urgent threat and restore the path of diplomacy. »

It is obvious that Tehran does not see things that way, and said that Araghchi “criticized the negative and biased approach of Britain and some European countries towards this blatant aggression, which violates international law.”

Allowing the United States to use British air bases, even though London has developed a definition of only defensive action, is “definitely considered participation in aggression,” Araghchi said. From now on, Iran said, the UK should “avoid any cooperation with the United States and the Zionist regime, in the military and media fields, including in providing a platform for terrorist networks to operate”.

After being reprimanded, Britain was told that giving any aid to the United States would be “recorded in the history of relations between the two countries.”

Criticisms aside, the remarks also contained something of a threat, with Iran telling Britain “we reserve our inherent right to defend the country’s sovereignty and independence.”
