Iran FM’s Interview With Liberal Media Does Not Go Well as He Trips All Over Himself, Digs a Bigger Hole – RedState

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi conducted an interview with “Face the Nation” via Zoom, purportedly from Tehran.

There were some interesting highlights, as he could be seen repeating Democratic arguments against the Trump administration and Operation Epic Fury.

Aragchi used Democratic terminology, calling it “a war of President Trump and the United States’ choice,” and he claimed War Secretary Pete Hegseth’s claim that they would proceed “without mercy” was a “war crime.” This is another Democratic talking point.

So when Democrats and our enemies join in what they are saying, one has to wonder what Democrats are doing fueling such propaganda right now. They cannot put aside hatred of Trump, even if it could harm our military effort.

Host Margaret Brennan gave him a bit of a reality check. She asked if this was a war of survival? He was quick to assert that this was not the case: “No, this is not a war of survival. We have – we are – we are, you know, stable and strong enough.

Uh, Minister of Foreign Affairs? You get beaten next week and you’ve lost most of your troops. Even Iran’s internal security forces, the Basij, are being wiped out, thanks to the advice of your own people. Your “supreme leader” Cardboard Mojtaba can’t even show himself, and many don’t even believe he’s alive. It’s not exactly a glimmer of “stability.”

Aragchi insisted that they had not closed the Strait of Hormuz. As we reported, he previously said the deal was open except to the United States, Israel and their allies. The United States doesn’t have much that passes through the strait; the main problem was the Asian markets. So if he said it all went through there, it’s basically a huge cave.

Brennan asked about Iran’s enriched uranium, and Aragchi responded that it was underestimated and that they had no current plans to find out.

One of the most ridiculous moments came when Brennan asked him why he had access to the Internet to speak to CBS when people didn’t have access to the Internet.

“Well, I am the voice, because I am the voice of the Iranians and I must defend their rights,” he said. “That’s why I have access to the Internet, you know, just so that our voice can be heard by the international community,” he said. The Internet was shut down for “security reasons, because we are under attack.”

It takes courage when you know that so many Iranians are against the regime, which oppresses and kills its people. No one else needs to speak because the state speaks on their behalf. Is it defending their rights? But it’s the upside down world that Aragchi is trying to sell. And they restricted the Internet before Operation Epic Fury began. So he’s flat out lying.

He also lied that he had simply hit “US targets” when Iran had struck non-military, non-US targets in the Gulf states, as Brennan said.

“But your drones are heading toward civilian areas and hitting factories, hotels and civilians,” Brennan said.

Aragchi insisted that wasn’t true: “No, no-no, no, no, no, that’s not the case. We are only targeting American assets, American installations, American military bases.”

Even Brennan told him it was going to hurt Iran “in the long run.”

Hitting the Gulf states has now galvanized them against Iran. Here is an excerpt from UAE Foreign Minister Anwar Gargash where he tears Iran and Aragchi to shreds.

Following Iran’s brutal attack on the UAE in 1909, Mr. Abbas Araghchi accused the UAE of aggression against Iran, as part of a confused policy that misdirected its aim, lost its compass and abandoned its wisdom. The UAE has the right to defend itself against this terrorist aggression imposed on it, but it continues to prioritize reason and logic, exercising restraint and seeking an exit for Iran and the region. In his justification, Araghchi condemned his own country, reinforced its isolation and exposed its aggression, knowing that the UAE made sincere efforts until the very last moment to mediate between Washington and Tehran to avoid this war.

I don’t think the Gulf States will be satisfied with Aragchi’s words about them.
