Stephen Colbert gleefully mocks Trump’s White House address

Donald Trump delivered a prime-time speech from the White House on Thursday evening, blaming immigrants and Joe Biden for the current state of the US economy and promising, among other things, an “economic boom” in 2026 (despite his declining approval ratings), all surrounded by Christmas trees. And like Jimmy Kimmel and Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert has spilled the beans.
“Ladies and gentlemen, I believe that in a few years we will all remember where we were when we weren’t watching Donald Trump’s speech last night,” said The late show host Thursday. “Yesterday, Old Man Baloney Hands somehow convinced all the networks to move up their prime-time schedule to broadcast a presidential speech from the White House…I’m not sure what the urgency was here, other than his poll numbers, because he just played the oldies.”
Colbert played a clip of Trump’s speech in which he said: “This is what the Biden administration allowed to happen to our country, and it can never happen again.” We had men playing women’s sports, transgender for everyone, crime at record levels with law enforcement, and words like that were absolutely forbidden.
“Yes, words like ‘that’ were forbidden,” Colbert joked. “Under Biden, we couldn’t say “that”. It was necessary to say “this but there”. But under Donald Trump, we’re finally saying “Merry Thatmas” again.
