An imposing cloud of dust wreaked havoc in Arizona on Monday, to the grounding of flights and to leave thousands of people without electricity.

The slow cloud – known as Haboob – has struck Phoenix and Arizona City games, 60 miles southeast, late Monday afternoon, leaving 15,000 energy customers in darkness. The number still without electricity on Tuesday morning was more than 5,000 according to Poweroutage.us, mainly in the county of Maricopa.

Videos published on social networks have shown whole neighborhoods engulfed in the dark while the storm of dust crossed. A video shot from a passing aircraft showed the pure extension of the cloud, extending for miles in the distance.
