It Can Be Done if Leaders Choose – RedState

What is the soul of an institution worth? Now I know that organizations have no more soul than stones, machines or animals. The eternal, living agent is limited to humans endowed with the Imago Dei, the image of God in which Adam and all his descendants since were formed. God gave humanity the institutions of family, church, and state for our well-being and his glory. But He also placed other acts of creation in the heart of man. Our ancestors put this to good use for millennia, creating cities, nations, and wonders of the world.
Thanks to the work of several generations, they built institutions. These human-resourced organizations transcend individual actors and ages, becoming the foundation of society…providing services without which we cannot imagine an ordered life. Hospitals, universities, and even, more recently, railroads and airlines exist on a scale far beyond the individual, but require masses of individuals to carry out their mission. Many souls build and maintain institutions that themselves remain soulless. Yet they have a character that is reflected in the actions of those charged with stewardship in their day. As with the individual, such a character can be rich or bankrupt.
The army is such an institution, although it is descended from divinely created state orders. The proper functioning of a nation’s armed forces is an extension of the magistrate’s responsibility to protect order and terrorize evil. Yet, under the guise of health protection, the U.S. military has turned against pious and constitutionally minded officials since 2020. Military commanders have reflected a de-Bathification mindset, harshly suppressing concerns about what is now recognized as a problem. illicit firing order. They humiliated, harassed, coerced, cajoled, persecuted, threatened and terrorized men and women who sacrificed for many years during an era defined by enthusiastic wars of choice.
The Trump administration ran on an agenda that included, correctly, forcing the military to atone for the sins of its COVID policy. A decree was issued a week after the inauguration. This was followed by written directives from the Secretary of Defense directing military service branches to become involved in the reinstatement of service members who were expelled, or self-selected, due to the Department’s “unfair, overbroad, and unnecessary coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination mandate.” »

Yet the actions taken by Pentagon officials demonstrate a perception that COVID-Related Reprimands are definitely lepers and must stay outside the city gates. Claims that those expelled have been reinstated are false. Nine months into the Trump administration, the most recent estimated number is three. The War Department does not document reintegration statistics, leaving it to veterans who monitor this closely to determine compliance with the president’s reintegration order.
Those who return have their civilian income deducted from their so-called “full back pay.” It is unclear whether federal civilians currently on leave will have their income deducted when the current government shutdown ends. Many of those who have been illegally expelled are working hard to try to rejoin the army that abandoned them, and are constantly blocked by a multitude of actors who have mastered the art of delay and malicious obedience. At some point, it must be recognized that actions speak louder than words, and in this case, they prove the lack of character of the military institution.
From a pragmatic perspective, one can understand why Biden survivors, policymakers whose lives were unaffected by the now-expired military mandates, and generals who protected their moral compass from illegal actions would prefer to forget this dark period in military history. Recruitment has increased, reversing the crisis period from 2022 to 2024. The membership and training pipelines operate with virtually no effort from senior staffs. New recruits enter service with a blank slate as far as the military institution is concerned. In contrast, those who have been expelled – or self-selected due to the tyranny of Covid – are viewed with suspicion by the human machine which regards loyal dissent as disloyalty. To do them good, it is now necessary for mercenaries with prejudices to recognize their wrongs and choose to participate in reparation. But it was not through humility that they gained rank and power. It is naive to expect such virtue from those whom CS Lewis aptly described as men without chest in our time.
So we come to the question of where to go from here. Can the character of the military institution be saved in our time? For my part, I remain a cynical optimist. In our quest to halt the slide toward tyranny, we have no choice but to persevere, regardless of the magnitude of opposition and the seemingly slim odds. Our generations need to move away from the fatalism of baby boomers who sit on the sidelines, wringing their hands, while verbally lamenting how bad things are – and doing nothing about it. Consider how far you’ve come in a year. The so-called “Pride” month is on life support. Antifa is finally declared a terrorist group. The young men return to church. Leftists who fetishize premeditated homicide on social media are fired. Who among us would have imagined such a moment in our lives just a few years ago? It turns out that progressives don’t own history after all. The path of our time still needs to be taken into account.
Throughout American history, we have seen the American military break the sword of the tyrant when will, determination, and character collide. Whether it’s enabling the founding of the nation during the Revolutionary War, liberating Europe in the last century, or laying the groundwork for sending humans to the Moon, when those who lead the military are determined, the seemingly impossible becomes realistic. Faced with such a precedent, making amends in the face of illegal Covid-related policies is “too easy”, as military parlance would say.
To return to the starting point, an institution has no soul. But it is marked by a character, for better or for worse, a reflection of the ethos demonstrated by its leaders. Our eyes, and those of history, now watch and wait to see what legacy those currently running the War Department will choose: continued moral failure, or recovery and restoration.
Editor’s note: Schumer’s closure is here. Rather than putting the American people first, Chuck Schumer and radical Democrats forced a government shutdown on health care for illegal immigrants. They own that.
