Paprika is used in all kinds of cuisines, which is why it is an essential spice in cooking. This has recently caused quite a stir on social media, with many people shocked and even disappointed by the way paprika is produced.
Nutra Organic, an Australian Instagram influencer, decided to do some research and posted this comment: “Learning that paprika is just dried and crushed red pepper was really shocking. I don’t know why I thought there was a paprika in there somewhere.”
Many people have had the same thought: you mean there’s no paprika? Unfortunately, this is not the case.

Red pepper is a mild, mild pepper. It is dried, crushed and ground to produce paprika.
Confusion over the origins of the spice is because many people thought it was a separate plant. Instead, it simply comes from a pepper.
In order to obtain the bright red paprika, the peppers are harvested when they turn red. This is what achieves maximum flavor and sweetness.

In most cases, peppers are air dried or placed in a dehydration machine. Once sufficiently dried, it is ground into a fine powder. This means that people, if they wish, can make their own paprika.
It’s probably easiest to buy it in stores, and you may want to always have some on hand, whether to use it in a spice blend, in a stew or marinade, or even to sprinkle on your dish as a garnish.
