China has transformed a pair of Olympic places into a playground for robots.

The inaugural world humanoid robots games, from August 15 to 17, opened Friday with football, sprints, kickboxing and table tennis, as well as a healthy number of facial plants. The games have 280 teams of robots from 16 countries and hundreds of two -way robots in the running for medals and everything that goes to boast rights among robots.

The events are divided between two monuments of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games: the National Stadium of China and the National Speed Oval. On the schedule: athletics, football (football to the Americans), table tennis and “scenario” tests such as sorting medicine, cleaning services and industrial handling – the type of practical skills that really care about robots.

The high -boiled coil has revealed more chaos than control: Soccerbots collizing the Midmatch, the sprinters grazing in the middle and the kickboxers requiring a restart. But there were also light points. Some robots got back on their feet and finished the races of the intermediate distance while the managers inflated behind them. There was even a 1,500 meter race. Tickets operated from 128 to 580 yuan (around $ 18 to $ 80).

Robots athletes are provided by a combination of university and industry, including Chinese unit and Fourier, with squads of the United States, Germany, Brazil, Japan and more. The organizers launch the weekend as a collection of pressure data, the sports forcing robots to demonstrate balance, vision and decision-making, which will later result in the work of robots in factories, logistics and home aid.

China uses games to present its bet on embodied AI – software linked to machines that can navigate in human spaces. The country has poured billions of dollars into robotics and planned a fund of 1 Billion from Yuan (around $ 137 billion) for startups as part of a push to counter a crunch for work works and compete in advanced manufacturing.

The rules vary according to the event, but the organizers say that competitions cover autonomous control and remote operation. In any case, no “player swaps” of Midmatch for fresh robots is authorized. This means many stress tests on robot batteries, heat management and chaos recovery behavior in real time.

The Associated Press broadcast some of the games if you want to check it.

The event takes place until August 17.
