Beijing’s ‘Robot Olympics’ Are Off and Running (and Falling)
China has transformed a pair of Olympic places into a playground for robots.
The inaugural world humanoid robots games, from August 15 to 17, opened Friday with football, sprints, kickboxing and table tennis, as well as a healthy number of facial plants. The games have 280 teams of robots from 16 countries and hundreds of two -way robots in the running for medals and everything that goes to boast rights among robots.
The events are divided between two monuments of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games: the National Stadium of China and the National Speed Oval. On the schedule: athletics, football (football to the Americans), table tennis and “scenario” tests such as sorting medicine, cleaning services and industrial handling – the type of practical skills that really care about robots.
