It’s Time to Escape From New York – RedState

The “lucky ones” of New York have a new mayor, Zohran Mamdani, whom I have unaffectionately dubbed the Commie Radical Muslim (CRM). My RedStater colleague Brad Essex previously reported on Mamdani’s midnight swearing-in in an abandoned subway, which was described as “romantic” and “historic” by regular MSM hackers. Another fellow Redstater, Ward Clark noted that the block party hosted by CRM was “disastrous,” with no food or restrooms.

Mamdani’s first neighborhood party, Bolshevik style: no bread, no toilets, it’s a failure

And Nick Arama has even more here.

The real questions now facing New York City residents are: Who, exactly, will “come through this good and hard” and how much will they suffer?

Well, based on the CRM’s inauguration speeches and its past record, it seems clear to me that the CRM fully embraces its socialism/communism. After listening to his speeches, to paraphrase Theodore White, I immediately slapped my forehead and shouted, “My God, he’s going to rule like Zohran Mamdani!”

Mamdani’s second inaugural ceremony dove straight into socialism, beginning with the singing of the socialist anthem “Bread and Roses.” During the CRM speech, he promised:

“I have been told that this is an opportunity to reset expectations, that I should use this opportunity to encourage the people of New York to ask for little and expect even less. I will do no such thing. The only expectation I seek to reset is low expectations.”

And:

“Starting today, we will govern expansively and boldly…To those who insist that the era of big government is over, hear me when I say this: City Hall will no longer hesitate to use its power to improve the lives of New Yorkers.”

More explicitly, he confirmed: “I was elected a democratic socialist and I will govern as a democratic socialist. I will not abandon my principles for fear of being considered radical.” The CRM also vowed to “replace the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism.” He also acknowledged that the leader he most seeks to emulate is socialist U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, who once worked on a communist kibbutz in Israel and later honeymooned in the Soviet Union.

In terms of specific policies, the CRM promised to “create a new Ministry of Community Safety,” which could take precedence over the police, provide universal child care, freeze rents, and make city buses free.

Despite its socialist pretensions, it is important to remember that in 2021, the MRC has blurred the boundaries of its ideology by chattering about “the final objective of seizing the means of production”. This is pure communist pablum.

And as we should all know, communism and socialism can be synonymous, although communism has a much worse public image, which might make a smart leftist insist that it is a socialist rather than a communist.

Of course, CRM promises to pay its generous new rights only by targeting the “rich”, the “1 percent” or “billionaires and oligarchs”. But we all know that won’t work, because the problem with socialist governments “is that they are always short of other people’s money.”

Which means that a large portion of the New York City business community is going to experience major economic hardship thanks to CRM. Normal taxpayers should also be wary.

But the physical peril ahead for most New Yorkers (and other visitors) is far more dangerous. Islamists and other radical leftists will assume that with the CRM at Gracie Mansion, they will have political cover for their violence. And then there are the criminals.

New York’s Jewish community, which makes up 11 percent of the city’s population, is in grave danger. CRM is a radical Shia Muslim, and he has a long history of supporting and being supported by radical Muslims. In 2017, he rapped about his love for the leaders of the Holy Land Foundation, all convicted of financing Hamas (Sunni Muslim). In 2025, the MRC rubbed shoulders with Mahmoud Khalil, a non-citizen Arab who spent most of his time at Columbia University rioting against Jews and whom the Trump administration is aggressively trying to expel. In 2025, he took a photo – smiling, of course – with an unindicted (Sunni Muslim) terrorist involved in the World Trade Center bombing.

During his campaigns, he received substantial funding from Islamist groups linked to terrorism.

The MRC has made it clear that it hates Israel – and most Jews – with a passion. It was his anti-Israeli BDS activism that led him to socialism. And he steadfastly refused to condemn calls to “globalize the Intifada.”* The CRM hates Jews so much that on the very day of its inauguration, it was caught deleting former Mayor Adams’ messages and executive orders regarding combating anti-Semitism, which is a violation of the law.

New York City civilians are also threatened by criminals and illegal aliens. As mentioned in his speech, the MRC is committed to using mental health personnel rather than police officers in many situations. Additionally, in the past, CRM has advocated for defunding the police, although it later backed away from this proposal when it proved unpopular. The fact that the left-wing Soros Organization invested up to $40 million in a potentially illegal project to elect the CRM almost certainly means that the CRM will promote pro-Soros, soft-on-crime, and pro-illegal-alien policies. These policies have already been partially implemented in some areas of New York City (I’m looking at you, Alvin Bragg). As a result, there could be more deranged homeless criminals released who threaten the public, and fewer heroes available to prevent crimes from being committed. There may also be more illegal aliens murdering citizens.

ICE personnel, or other federal government employees charged with enforcing federal laws, can also be expected to face increasing physical risks from left-wing Soros groups. Perhaps in line with what is currently happening in Portland, Oregon?

This is a sad time for the people of New York and I feel sorry for them. (At least those who didn’t vote for CRM.) I have to say, though, that I never thought while watching “Escape from New York” that I was watching the future. Sure, the timing was a little off, but who knew John Carpenter was a prophet?

*Calls to “globalize the Intifada” are actually calls to riot and murder Jews around the world. During both Intifadas, and many other times since, Palestinian Arabs attacked anyone who was not a Palestinian Arab and were frequently heard shouting “death to the Yahud.” This meant the Jews; not the Israelis.

Editor’s note: Zohran Mamdani is an avowed democratic socialist, and now he is mayor of New York.
