New York congressional candidate Jack Schlossberg criticized a Hulu and FX series about the relationship between his uncle, John F. Kennedy Jr., and Carolyn Bessette in an interview Sunday, calling the show a “grotesque” presentation of someone else’s life and arguing that it was fiction.
Schlossberg, son of Caroline Kennedy and grandson of President John F. Kennedy, criticized “Love Story” as a way for the show’s producer, Ryan Murphy, to make money.
“Well, if you want to know someone who’s never met anyone in my family and doesn’t know anything about us, talk to Ryan Murphy. I’d just like people who TO DO watch the show to watch it with a letter in mind, and it’s a capital F for fiction,” Schlossberg told CBS News’ Mo Rocca.
“This guy doesn’t know anything about what he’s talking about and he’s making a ton of money by grotesquely portraying someone else’s life,” Schlossberg continued. “I would hope that Mr. Murphy would donate some of the millions of dollars in profits he makes to some of the causes that John fought for throughout his life – justice, maybe he would donate some of that money to the JFK Library to help keep the memory of President Kennedy alive. But that’s not the case, he’s making money. It’s not a documentary, and I’ll leave it at that.”

Rocca noted that there have been many films and books about the Kennedy family and asked Schlossberg if there was anything special about “Love Story.”
“I think over the last year, two, three years, partly because of RFK Jr., but also partly because Donald Trump has used JFK as a kind of human punching bag, both by renaming the Kennedy Center after him, by leading a fake new investigation into the assassination and by dismantling all the programs that he fought for,” Schlossberg said. “There is a lot of misinformation now and iconography used about the Kennedy family, My family, in a time when we really can’t afford to confuse people. »
He encouraged Murphy to donate some of the money he makes from the show to something that helps Trump leave office.
“We really have to take all our breaths to try to make things better,” Schlossberg said. “So if Ryan Murphy really cares that much about the Kennedy family, my Uncle John, maybe he would try to do something to get Trump out of office.”
Hulu and FX did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

John F. Kennedy Jr. and Bessette died in a plane crash in 1999. Schlossberg is Kennedy Jr.’s nephew.
Executive producer Brad Simpson responded to Schlossberg’s initial criticism of the series in February, insisting that the series is a “sincere” reflection of his uncle’s life.
“What I hope is that when people watch the show, they will see our sincerity. They will see that we approached this with love and that we were trying to celebrate the lives of Carolyn Bessette and JFK Jr.,” Simpson said. told the Hollywood Reporter.
“I can understand why someone might react before they see it, but I would say, ‘Watch the show,’ because I think they’re going to be surprised at how heartfelt it is,” Simpson said.

Schlossberg also faced some of his social media posts during Sunday’s CBS interview, particularly one targeting second lady Usha Vance. In one post, Schlossberg superimposed his face onto that of one of Usha Vance’s children.
He denied “crossing a line” by implicating the vice president’s wife.
“I think what crosses the line is the propaganda that we see put out every day by the White House and Vance,” Schlossberg responded. “So what are we going to do, hold back? Hold back our sense of humor and not tease them, laugh at them back?”
He added, “First of all, I don’t think anyone seriously thought I meant we actually had a love child! You can point the finger at everything I posted, I’m pointing you at a president sharing photos of himself pelting American citizens with feces. This is a new era we live in.”
