Jack Smith’s Investigation Was ‘Takedown of a Political Movement’

John Lauro, who served as President Donald Trump’s attorney in former Special Counsel Jack Smith’s case in Washington, D.C. regarding protests at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, explained how newly released FBI files relating to Smith’s “Arctic Frost” investigation revealed that Smith issued nearly 200 subpoenas targeting Republican-linked officials and organizations. Lauro explained during an appearance on Breitbart News Saturday that Smith’s investigation was “simply a takedown of a political movement by the DOJ.”
Lauro’s comments come after Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) released recently released Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) files – relating to Smith’s “Arctic Frost” investigation. Lauro added that the “shocking news in this Arctic Frost case” was that members of Congress were being targeted.
Jasmyn Jordan of Breitbart News reported that Smith’s “Arctic Frost” investigation has already faced criticism over secretly obtained “phone and financial records” of Republican officials and Republican-linked organizations.
“These documents should have been turned over to us, and they never were,” Lauro said, adding that they were “exculpatory information regarding the Biden administration’s efforts” to pursue Trump and Republican officials.
“And that was really Jack Smith’s ultimate goal. There was nothing fair about his investigation or his prosecution. This was simply the DOJ’s takedown of a political movement, and it really should be shocking to all Americans that this was allowed to continue – with the support of the media, the Democratic Party, the Department of Justice, the Biden administration, and it was truly an outrageous example of legal policy whose purpose was to interfere in elections, to disrupt the MAGA movement and, ultimately, to deny President Trump another term.”
“In fact, that was Joe Biden’s stated goal. If you remember, in November 2022, after the midterm elections, Joe Biden stood up and said, ‘I’m going to do everything I can to prevent President Trump from taking power again,’ and he said constitutionally, which of course was a wink, a wink, a nod, a nod, we don’t care about the Constitution.”
“And then President Trump announced, and immediately after that, Jack Smith, the prosecutor’s pit bull, who is always used by Democrats to bring down Republicans, was activated and energized, and then these false accusations came.”
“But what we didn’t know at the time was that Republican lawmakers and members of Congress were also being targeted, and that’s the shocking news in this Arctic Frost case.”
Lauro went on to explain that Smith knew Trump’s legal team’s defense was “political revenge.”
“Jack Smith knew our defense was political vengeance, that it was being done against President Trump and his supporters in retaliation for their candidacy for president. It was our primary defense, everyone knew that. President Trump announced it publicly, and this information would support all of that. The fact that they went after key Republican lawmakers would support our defense, and it should have been returned.”
Lauro went on to stress that Smith “must be called before Congress and answer to the American people for everything he did to try to stop Donald Trump from being president.”
